@swinster72 Just one quick example I could think of but the sequencing is a challenge and then followed by choice of activities to support the knowledge of that learning. All good to keep questioning what is important and the best way to deliver it too!

@CSmythePE Thanks mate. The topics aren’t a major issue it’s the sequence that is difficult I think. Eg for short term effects to make sense then they need to know something about body systems etc etc . It’s the building on prior knowledge I’m grappling with! ☺️

PE people what do you think is essential knowledge that needs to be included in a health and fitness SoL? How would you sequence it through Yr 7/8/9? RT’s please!

@swinster72 I agree mate, takes time to consider what’s important and how you add layers to knowledge each YG. One example is Y7 - tend to go basic level short term - (increase HR, skin colour, breathing rate) - Y8 - HR/training zones, basic musc system - Y9 - basic card/resp/energy system.

Further evidence that a fun, engaging and competitive practice is *always* age appropriate. Robin Hood/Hungry Hippos only for U9s? Think again.

My take on : Task simplification & manipulating constraints,in this case (equipment) in beginners tennis. Tennis has traditionally treated newcomers to the game as if they're incapable of PLAYING tennis until all the technical "fundamentals" are in place. I was guilty of this 🤦🏽‍♂️.
