Even if Albertans couldn’t keep provincial taxation of oil, they’d _still_ be better off as part of the US. Why? Oil would be developed on a scale currently unimaginable. The US would use the world’s 3rd largest oil reserves to achieve their long-desired goal of energy independence. Canada fights over one pipeline. Try ten. Even right now Alberta’s trade in oil with the US is more valuable than its trade in all goods with the rest of Canada. 110 billion vs 70.6 billion.
