As some of you here know, just a month ago, on our first family trip to Disney World, we found ourselves on the most unexpected and scary ride of our lives, rushed to the ER in the back of an ambulance with our seven-year-old son. After arriving at the hospital, the diagnosis came almost immediately; blood tests showed a blood sugar level of over 920, and Cooper was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Shock would be putting it mildly. Since that day, we’ve been on a crash course, trying to navigate this new "normal,” and balance the physical and mental drain of providing the care he needs with the emotional toll that coming to terms with the diagnosis has brought. In the middle of the chaos, @BreakthroughT1D has been a lifeline. From providing research updates to sending his "Bag of Hope" (featuring a T1D teddy bear, Rufus, he can "manage" alongside himself), they’ve made this transition a little less lonely and a little more hopeful. Managing T1D is possible, but a cure is the ultimate goal, and we truly believe it’s possible in our son's lifetime.
