I can appreciate that and understand where you're coming from, but people can be in a rush at the airport for all kinds of reasons that have nothing to do with their time management. (I.e. previous flight was delayed and they now have a short window to catch their connecting flight) So maybe the teachable moment for the 4 year old can be about how it's inconsiderate to hold people up and that's why he can't do his own boarding pass when there's a line behind you? It is in general a good idea to encourage kids to do things for themselves, but it needs to be balanced with common courtesy.

@itsnotnotfunny @clhubes @BruceB010 Sounds like people need to work on that instead of taking out their emotions on a child. Again, they're largely stressed out because they haven't arrived early enough, which is a them problem.

@andrewjkeith25 We definitely don't. There is nothing more special about humans than any other life. The idea that we are is what has led to indiscriminate over-use of natural resources and careless disregard for our fellow beings (though other animals also destroy the environment).

@daysnotlived @hankgreen “We matter because matter” is has no weight to someone who doesn’t believe human beings actually matter. Hanks phrasing “humans pretend they matter” infers he doesn’t believe we have actual intrinsic value and according to atheism we don’t.

This is a great question, and one of the answers is a great secret that explains a huge amount of how the world works. First: We have been cooking food for a long time to free up calories that would otherwise be unavailable. We’ve been doing this long enough that it as affected our physiology. But the second answer is the big one: Humans are able to behave as if our lives are extremely valuable. Deer and coyotes and pigeons and hawks and bears drop like flies. They die constantly. Humans have the ability to not accept this and so we do all kinds of crazy things to prevent ourselves from puking or shitting our brains out or dying. We’re perfectly capable of eating and digesting raw meat, but we do not do it because we have the ability to make a different decision that decreases the amount of time we spend suffering.

@iam_kendiii We do have one child, but after him, for a long time I had an IUD and then switched to Depo. My husband got a vasectomy in 2015ish and I had a hysterectomy two years ago.
