I once fell into the trap of heavy strength is needed to improve speed and “stronger” athletes are faster athletes. But boy was I ever wrong, over the last few years I have figured out what is “strong enough”. In rugby 7’s speed is one of the most important KPI’s. (1/5)

It’s weird to me when people say like Twitter or instagram isn’t as good as what it was before… bruh it’s an algorithm heavily based on the input you give it. Your social media is trash then that’s on you bruh.

The best guide I’ve found on how strong is “strong enough”. Based on 6 years of collegiate football data from @CoachKStrength. Credit @coachwellmanphd and our staff at Indiana for the chart. Max strength is very important but the ceiling on transfer might be lower than we think.

@fbcoachsimpson That’s what happening here in Canada. High school teams are getting cut by schools and everyone is going to the club level.

Do you think high school aged sports are eventually heading to being club led instead of school led?

When we look at the frequency studies with low workout volumes, we see indications of superior hypertrophy with higher training frequency.

Ever wondered why people with pain and injury might struggle to improve their muscle strength or capacity despite exercise rehabilitation? We go into some of the neurophysiological reasons in our new @BMJOpenSEM viewpoint 💪🏻 bmjopensem.bmj.com/content/bmjose…

💪 New Research Alert: Hamstring Hypertrophy 💪 Exciting new study comparing two popular hamstring exercises: Nordic Hamstring Training (NHT) vs. Lengthened State Eccentric Training (LSET). Which one boosts muscle size and strength more? Let's dive in! 🧵👇 🏋️‍♂️ Methodology: 42 healthy young males 12-week training program Groups: NHT, LSET, and control (CON) Measured muscle volume via MRI and knee flexion torque 📈 Results: Muscle Hypertrophy LSET increased overall hamstring size by +18% vs. NHT’s +11% BFlh muscle volume: +19% for LSET vs. +5% for NHT Larger increase in BFlh aponeurosis area with LSET (+9% vs +3%) 💥 Strength Gains: Maximum eccentric torque increased by +17% with LSET vs. +11% with NHT and +4% with CON 🏃‍♂️ Training Insights: LSET is more effective for muscles involved in both knee flexion & hip extension NHT better targets knee flexors not involved in hip extension LSET may enhance sprint performance & reduce hamstring injuries 🏆 Conclusion: For superior hamstring hypertrophy & strength, LSET is the winner! Athletes & coaches should consider integrating LSET into training routines for optimal performance and injury prevention. Full Text: journals.lww.com/acsm-msse/abst…

Comparison of ground reaction force profiles between… 📌 Max Deceleration (5.9 x BM) 📌 Max Sprint Velocity (4.4 x BM) 📌 Max Acceleration (2.2 x BM) Intense deceleration/braking is the most mechanically demanding activity athletes are exposed to‼️ #braking #forces

Love reading these animal studies on movement speed.. The faster an individual approached a turn, the higher probability they would crash! Optimal - rather than maximal - performance capabilities underlie fitness defining behaviours such as escaping predators & capturing prey

'Injury Prevention Program' - Technically, it looks like a general youth development program However, even a brief program prior to technical sessions appears to have an impact on sport performance in youth athletes 🧒 So, let the youths train 🤸 academy.scienceforsport.com/catalog

What type of strength training best impacts middle or long distance running performance? New meta-analysis: The Effects of Strength Training Methods on Middle and Long Distance Running Performance 📈38 included studies; 900 middle or long distance runners 💪Strength training interventions included: 1⃣High load (>80% 1RM) 2⃣Sub max load (40-80% 1RM) 3⃣Plyometric 4⃣Combined methods (2 or more methods) Strength training w/ high load can improve time trial an time-to-exhaustion performance Combined methods (Strength training & plyometrics) had an increased performance improvement effect compared to one method alone (strength training only). Plyometrics illicited no improvement in running peroformance when used in isolation (IE without concurrent strength training). But this finding is in contrast to some previous studies.
