Public Service Announcement If your son was dismissed from his high school team for missing the teams spring break tournament, to go on vacation (beach trip, etc.). Or Your son isn't getting playing time because he missed the spring break tournament for vacation. Do this. Call the school's athletic director or principal and request a meeting. Tell them it's important. At the meeting, tell them how much you appreciate the coach caring enough about your son to teach him about life, and how much you appreciate him holding your son accountable. Then thank them for hiring a coach that cared about commitment, sacrifice and teaching the kids that being a great teammate comes with responsibilities. Then suggest they give the coach a raise, shake their hands and reiterate how much you appreciate them.

Clark Lea is a real leader. Doesn’t blame the committee. Doesn’t complain about scheduling. Doesn’t get defensive about losses or conferences. He models responsibility for his players, same as he expects from his players. I’m telling you, this matters more than you realize.

For the last two weeks, everyone saw the brawl between Gainesville and Brunswick. However, stuff like this needs to be seen more. Several Jefferson players come over and console a few of West Laurens’ players. Pure class by the Dragons after a hard-fought win over the Raiders.

Concerning this Gainesville situation… easy to say what should happen when you aren’t in charge. Tough situation for all involved. I totally understand the Gainesville point of view and hate this has altered their season. I also understand there are rules in place that must be enforced. It is difficult to be the decision maker. Everyone wants to be the leader until they have to lead through a difficult situation. Since I’m not the decision maker and don’t have all the facts, I’ll just show support for the leaders involved. I pray Dr. Scott, Coach Niblett, Coach Grady, and the others have wisdom and make something positive come out of this difficult situation.

The assistant coach who thinks their job is to be “the players’ friend” becomes the biggest problem on the staff. Be supportive, not enabling.
