wow, @YouTube just played a trailer ad for a John malkovitch movie with no less than 5 F-bombs. glad I don't have kids to try and keep innocent, even YouTube is corrupting with every day ads.

@fjzeit taxes here can be annoying, but the software these days is free and covers even business taxes. it's mostly data entry, and it walks you through it. I just skipped a box like a goofball 🤪

@CodexHere i pay somebody to do it. easiest outcome. but my tax situation is relatively straightforward: my income tax is already sorted through the year, so year-end filing is usually about deductions, any dividends that aren't fully franked, and cgt.

i dunno, i find this to be like redneck engineering or third world engineering... it's the primitive approach combined with the effectiveness that makes it genius.

Rented an entire arcade for my daughter's birthday party. So many choices.

@michiokage there's quite a few designs out there but they don't quite compare to existing methods. noise, cost, weight, and they still deteriorate in the same amount of time.

@Dexerto cable: physical lines, maintenance, support, schedules. streaming: rented servers, rented wires, on demand. one owns the hardware, the other owns the customer.

Linus Tech Tips has called out YouTube for adding 30-second unskippable ads to its TV app "When will it be enough? Are we just going to go all the way back to cable TV with three-minute ad breaks? Can we not?"

@devinbgoble @home_assistant meanwhile the pushback i get is "submit a PR"... sure, let me wade through 2-3 million lines of code, configurations, build tooling, etc just to track down the code that you won't even look at the issue or PR for maybe 3-6 years.... i'll get RIGHT on that.

@home_assistant mods are fucking retards. i called out that no one ever helps, and instead of helping they say "well maybe no one knows?" 40k people in the discord and hundreds of thousands people on the forums, and they want to make the argument that "no one knows"?! fuck you

@CodexHere He admitted he could have asked AI. That's literally one of its strongest use cases. You can vaguely describe an idea, and it'll tell you exactly what you should be looking for. I used to do the same thing with regular web searching, but it took a lot longer.

this is why we have education systems. I'm really tired of people thinking they're smart because they fell into a solution that's been known FOR MILLENNIA, all because they think they're smarter than 100+ generations that came before them. bro you're lerping not solving cancer
Valentin Ignatev@valigo

I desperately need to learn more math. Recently I invented "lerp" from first principles. Would have saved some time if I knew its industry-standard name :/

@michiokage since a pre-teen i've studied this shit, and not once have i looked back at old code in my entire life and was stumped on what was going on, unless it was a crazy process/algorithm that had unnecessary complexity due to limitations, and even then clean code paradigms help

@michiokage it's the same problem i have for most "programmers"... they don't learn design patterns and algorithms and cope themselves into dunning kruger echoing "you don't need that"... compare how they speak about their code and products to how i speak about mine.
