They don’t listen: Two years ago, the tier 1 schools raised player welfare as a potential issue in March/April. Playing 5 matches in 14 days is ludicrous for an athlete, let alone an 18 year-old body. Factor in Craven Week, SA schools matches + third term fixtures too… Disaster.

Stormers can feel hard done by with that final decision but they refused to use some width and keeping it close was always going to bring the officials into the picture. Drop goal was also on.

Eddie Hearn couldn’t care less about what a ruck entry looks like or how many times Pollock gets it right. He sees star power, and that’s the point. You can be the best rugby player in the world and still not be marketable. Pollock, on the other hand, ticks both boxes. He’s a very good player, but more importantly, he’s young, charismatic, looks the part, and knows how to command attention. His marketability is huge. Hearn isn’t interested in the technical purists’ view, he’s backing something he believes can grow, and if it works, it opens the door for others too.
