dude i fucking wish marathon wasnt shrouded in controvercy before release. Universally all ACTUAL critics (not just the people who suck at fps games) have given the game an incredibly high review score and have said it scratches an itch many games dont.

Marathon is being so slept on by the FPS community. It's been really interesting as a content creator, hearing directly from viewers that they refuse to watch because they can’t get past the polarizing visuals to understand that this is truly one of the best feeling FPS experiences in years with tight gunplay, insane tension (genuinely has my heart beating out my chest) and a gameplay loop that actually rewards skill and decision making. But I think that's also the games biggest problem. People like to bash the art style but really I think it's that PvP games just don’t stick like they used to. They’re harder to get into, harder to watch, and don’t have broad, instant appeal. If it’s not immediately accessible or visually “safe” people bounce. So Marathon ends up overlooked, not because it’s bad (it's great) but because it’s different at a time when most players just want familiar. *It's also crazy that Bungie took such a huge risk on a niche game with a niche art style for such a niche demographic so I can understand where the negativity is coming from as far as gamers wanting more than just "another extraction shooter" but they made a damn good one and I hope more people give it a chance.

I can find a game at any time of day, in any playlist, presumably on my servers if it’s instant. Ranked or Cryo Archive, it’s not only filtering players on Xbox but it’s filling lobbies at any time of day with time invested players. My feed is filled with amazing fan art and I’ve had to sign up for restock notifications for merch as it’s all sold out on the Bungie store. Marathon is in a death spiral. Week to week, peak players are dropped by over 10k players, and when numbers are this low, they cannot afford to bleed any more players. Add to that where Paul Tassi said that most of the Marathon players are on PC, these numbers are apocalyptic for a game that cost over $200 million to produce and develop... It means that these steam numbers are the main story... not some hidden console numbers. Aside from game sales, the revenue stream relies on microtransactions within the game's shop. MTX with only 50k peak players is not enough for a game of this scale and budget. These declining numbers lead to the "social proof" effect, which makes whales hesitant when it comes to their purchases. Bungie needs a miracle, some patch that fixes all of the glaring issues... but let's face it... People are just not interested in hardcore extraction shooters, while getting a visual migraine from the effects and colors.

I aren’t being paid to say this, I aren’t some known entity or a streamer, nobody has a gun to my head, these are just organic feelings from someone who genuinely loves Marathon Honestly I can’t remember the last time that I’ve felt this invested in a game, I’m already thinking about what I’m going to grind for when I get home tomorrow as I work towards maxing every faction, thinking about those zero to hero runs on outpost barely making it to the final exfil having gone in with nothing and came out with thousands worth of gear and that’s just so exciting to me, I feel like I’ve found home on this game the same way that I did with Destiny. It’s the trademark Bungie gunplay and the aesthetic that’s dripping at the seams everywhere you look is hyper stylised and sci-fi, I dig it so much, I’ve never known anything like it. I’m going to be playing this game for a long time 🙌 #Marathon @MarathonTheGame
