@DanLairdMD And it hits younger people. A friend of a friend was dx stage 3, now she's stage 4, she's mid-40s with 3 kids in HS. Screening age 45+ is too late!

Yes. I’ve done this medical malpractice case over and over. Patient diagnosed w late stage colon cancer, never offered any kind of colon cancer screening by primary care provider- colonoscopy, stool blood test, stool DNA test, colonography, etc. Tragic. And no amount of money is worth having colon cancer.

@lil23rdss @miseriavolare @ibdgirl76 My hospital stay after my gallbladder came out was extended 7 days for pain mgmt. I REFUSED to leave until it was addressed. Luckily, attending was happy to call my physiatrist and collaborate. Surgeon just wrote my discharge and walked away.

As a pain patient - what's the one myth you'd like to debunk that you wish people would stop saying about chronic pain patients?

@ChrisAlvino After 15 yrs I still don't have my own place again. I cannot offer financial help. But I can offer solidarity, you are not alone. I've basically couch/room surfed with friends and family since losing my home due to disability. Not ideal, but better than street.

Since this is doing numbers, can any of you help me friend who is in desperate need of help? They're disabled and just got evicted from their house and need immediate financial help before they end up homeless: gofund.me/bd55cd1b

We NEED to end the war on drugs to save lives, families, and communities... Probably why politicians and government orgs are so against ending it honestly—it keeps marginalized communities down. That's why Nixon started it after all

@Kafkasrecruit @ChrisAlvino Yep. First year of appeals I was out of almost everything I had worked for & saved the previous 10 yrs. By the end of the second year, I was homeless and consulting bankruptcy lawyers. I was evicted 1 month shy of the 2 yr mark. It was 8 months after that I got approved SDDI.

So this year NO Medicare Part D plan is covering the pain med I've been on for 9 years. :-( No viable alternatives offered. One company gave me NO notice, just denied. Changed companies. They gave a 30 day Rx to wean off it. :-( How screwed am I?

@michelleziemba @DanLairdMD The FDA approves a LOT of things on the basis of something similar being previously approved. THAT is probably how this was approved. Fast tracked in because it's non-opioid and other SCS are on market.

This anti-opioid crusader and healthcare scammer is now going to spend up to 20 years in prison. She's reportedly been convicted of designing a sham nerve stimulator component and defrauding patients, physicians, and insurers out of $41 million. @DanLairdMD That statement indicates a complete lack of understanding of pain itself and the management of pain. It's as though an invasive implant (and all the complications it can have) is a better alternative to a potentially limited course of pain meds.

@JaymetheRN @JeromeAdamsMD We have to worry about insurance not covering them now too. I didn't get tapered. I got DENIED at pharmacy with no notice. "If I feel it will jeopardize my health they can expedite my appeal." No, abruptly stopping an opioid I've been on for over 3 yrs...it's fine! *Sarcasm*

@JeromeAdamsMD Now imagine you have a chronic, debilitating, painful condition & have been forced tapered off opioid medication that had you previously stabilized. You go to ER for your intractable pain flare & get out on a psychiatric hold.

Recently had an ER visit for dehydration while out of town. Received some labs and 3 IV bags. Here's the bill- AFTER insurance. It's no wonder medical debt is the top cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. 🏥💸 #HealthcareCosts #MedicalDebtCrisis

@purplemamabear @Optum Agreed. I laughed at the recorded message they called me with. "If you think this denial will jeopardize your health, you can request an expedited appeal." Uh, yeah, it absolutely jeopardizes my health! Or I wouldn't be taking it for three years.

@DCap529 @Optum That’s horrible. Not acceptable. All about money not health outcomes of patients. We need to turn this ship 🚢 around or just sink it and build another one.

Well, apparently 2024 is not only another year of DEA production cuts, but it's also the year all of my choices for Rx insurance thru Medicare stop covering my pain meds! Wasn't notified of that until my Rx was denied at the pharmacy. I've been weaning all week. :-(
