On 26 March 2026, the Odisha Biodiversity Board successfully organized a capacity-building program for 117 members from 12 Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) at Krushi Vigyan Kendra, Angul, covering the Angul Forest Division and Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Swain (RCCF), Angul Circle, and Sri Nitish Kumar (DFO), Angul Forest Division, with participation from district officers Sri Jai Shankar Pradhan and Dr. Satyanarayan Sahu. Experts including Sri Debashish Mishra, Smt. Aisharya Sahu, Smt. Chinmayi Rai, Sri Jayashree Chhatriya, Sri Prasanna Kumar Behera, Sri Shishir Kumar Mishra, Dr. Subhransu Kumar Nayak, Dr. Pravat Kumar Das, and Dr. Shiv Prasad Parida shared valuable knowledge on biodiversity conservation. Local BMC leaders—including Chairman Sri Viren Pradhan; members Sri Sushil Kumar Pradhan, Sri Pradeep Kumar Sahu, and Sri Muralidhar Behera; Treasurer Sri Shyam Sundar Das; and coordinators Sri Priyabrat Behera, Sri Likun Pradhan, Sri Rabindra Sahu, and Sri Vinay Sahu—actively participated, reinforcing community-led efforts toward sustainable biodiversity management in the region. District officers and experts shared insights on forest and wildlife protection, agricultural biodiversity, plant conservation, and the sustainable management of local ecosystems. Participants also took an oath on forest fire prevention and biodiversity protection. Mock Drill – Wildlife Rescue, Angul Forest Division A mock drill was conducted on 25-03-2026 at Kulasinga Mega Nursery by the Rapid Response Team (RRT) and Mobile Veterinary Unit (MVU) to enhance wildlife rescue preparedness. The exercise demonstrated safe darting and tranquilisation procedures, provided hands-on training on the Airwat Rescue Vehicle, and included a thorough equipment check for operational readiness. The drill improved team coordination and emergency response efficiency. Successful Combing Operation under Jibedaya Programme On 24 March 2026, a comprehensive combing operation was successfully carried out across all ranges of the Angul Forest Division under the guidance of Shri Nitish Kumar, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO). The operation was further supervised by Shri Krushna Chandra Sahoo (ACF) and Shri Sidhartha Jain, IFS(P) Angul, with strong support from dedicated field staff. The initiative saw active participation from Range Officers, Foresters, Forest Guards, squad members, Gaja Mitra members, as well as personnel from the Satkosia Wildlife Division, reflecting a coordinated and committed effort. The primary objective of the operation was to monitor wildlife and curb illegal activities such as poaching, hunting, encroachment, and unauthorized logging. It also focused on identifying potential environmental threats, including disease outbreaks among wildlife. The data collected during the operation will play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, strengthening habitat conservation, and protecting biodiversity in the Angul Forest Division. This initiative underscores the department’s continued commitment to sustainable forest management and the long-term preservation of natural ecosystems. Successful Animal Health Camp Conducted at Kanja Village: On 20 March 2026, an Animal Health Camp was successfully organized at the forest fringe village of Kanja by the Mobile Veterinary Unit (MVU), Angul Forest Division, under the Kanja Section of the Bantala Range. The programme aimed to improve animal health and raise awareness among livestock owners regarding proper animal care and management. More than 100 local livestock owners actively participated in the camp. Necessary veterinary services were provided on-site, ensuring immediate support and guidance for animal health and welfare. The team comprised Dr. P. K.
