The government needs to set the conditions for success by pulling the levers they control - permits, policies, timelines, taxes, beauacracy, etc. Streamlining and adjusting these, across levels of government, will set the conditions for success across Canada - that is hard, takes work, but more critically takes time - time is not "sexy" to a 4 year term government . They need flash. This current plan smacks of reactionary, micro fixes for flashy headlines. Looks like they hit the EASY button so they can boast in the House how they are fixing the problem. They will do just about anything except actually analyze the problem and fix it permanently.

I disagree with this take. “No deal” is not some clever punishment for Trump — it hurts Canadians too: workers, exporters, businesses, farmers, manufacturers, and families already dealing with high costs. Canada should negotiate firmly, but walking away just to make a political point is emotional, not strategic. The goal should be the best possible deal for Canadians, not cheering for economic pain because we dislike the person across the table.
