One of the most sticking points of the deal with Iran is the linkage between the Iran front and the Lebanese front. The Trump administration should have rejected this notion from the get go as it goes against their own interests (strengthening the Lebanese government and weakening Hezbollah). Unfortunately they didn’t and now they enabled Iran to make this situation far more complicated and in their favour

According to the Associated Press, citing people familiar with the matter, White House Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff told congressional leaders that Iran is set to host the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in country to inspect its nuclear facilities. As reports also indicate that Iranian decision-makers are set to meet IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi in Geneva, Switzerland, per the Associated Press report, the Iranian invitation to the IAEA would also allow U.S. nuclear inspectors to join the IAEA team in Iran.
