@JeffVeillette HoHO/GM. Needs to have character and integrity. Gillis/Frost/Mis-remembers. Not sure the boxes for character/integrity are checked here!

I think with a GM like Gillis the history isn't so much in looking at a trade list and looking at raw asset wins/losses, and looking more at the way the org operated at large. Came into VAN at an inflection point, identified and kept their core, and found ways to maximize them
paincouver@vancanuckpain

@JeffVeillette What were the good moves he made as GM for the Canucks? Honest question. He took over a team that already had the sedins, Luongo, Kesler, burrows, Edler, Bieksa, salo, Raymond, Schneider, Willie Mitchell, and Alain vingeault behind the bench. He won 5 playoff rounds in 5 szns

A message from Kaitlyn Lawes, via Instagram: I’m hanging up my shoes!..sort of. This is not a retirement announcement but I am taking a break. I started curling 34 years ago. I fell in love with the game from day one and had so much fun playing it with my family. All through my junior years I played other sports as well, but curling was the one sport I wanted to play more of, and try to find ways to get better. In 2006 when my dad got sick, I wanted nothing more than to have my dad see me win a Provincial title. That didn’t happen. Two months after his passing we won our first Provincial, National and World medal. Playing the game he loved was a way for me to always feel connected to my dad. Fast forward to the present and I have now completed 17 years playing in Women’s as my full time job. I am so lucky. I am grateful for all the teammates, coaches and friends I have made along the way. I could have never imagined I would get the opportunity to travel the world playing a sport I love, compete in 3 Olympic Games, 2 World Championships and 12 Scotties. These last 4 years have been an incredibly fun challenge. We went through a lot in our short time together and I’m sad this chapter is closing. It was a privilege to compete alongside Selena, Jocelyn and Kristin. I’m so grateful for their friendship. I have decided now is a good time for me to hit pause and take a year off to be home with my family. I didn’t take a maternity leave with either of my girls, and now at the start of a new Olympic cycle I feel like is the perfect time to rest, recover, learn more on the farm and be home with my family. I am excited for this next chapter. I don’t know where it’s going to take me…Maybe one day it will lead to a retirement, or maybe it will lead me right back to the game I love. Who knows. In the mean time, I won’t be too far. If you need a spare, I might be available. If you need someone to speak at your company event, I might be available. Or as my 3 year old puts it, I might just stay home and be a mommy. Thanks for being on this ride with me. The fans of curling sure are special. I am grateful for the love and support from coast to coast and around the world. See you on the ice soon, Kaitlyn

You ghoulish, soulless fuck. You weren’t “hurt,” you were exposed. And even now, you’re still too much of a cowardly, narcissistic piece of shit to tell the difference. Unlike Mueller’s death, yours will be celebrated worldwide and your grave will smell overwhelmingly of piss.

Hegseth: "We're still dealing with the environment Joe Biden created—depleting our stockpiles and sending them to Ukraine instead of our own military. Every time we face a challenge, it traces back to 'Well, sent it to Ukraine.'" It looks like they’re just going to blame Ukraine whenever anything goes wrong now, doesn’t it? It’s depressing to watch because while this administration will eventually leave office, a segment of Americans will keep hating Ukraine without even remembering why.

@EricEngels @sunhornby I call bullshit. An in person hearing could have been offered at the outset. The NHL DoPS could still have levied a 5 game suspension. My rationale is this offending player is a known dangerous, dirty and vintictive player. It’s one thing to play hard and another to be reckless.

NHL DoPS head George Parros responding to Connor McDavid's call for an examination of the suspension process: “We sweat over these decisions and pour over these decisions every night, all season long. We have a process in place that’s consistent, and we have a team that works for me, and together with me, that evaluates all these plays. A very experienced team, a veteran team. Guys that have been there since the beginning of the department. Not to mention all the former players that have a large set of experiences playing NHL games, accolades. Some of the best guys that have played the game work for this department help make decisions. So, our process, I feel very confident in. We’ve got great guys who make these decisions, and I think the players should be confident in this team to do so.”

@simmonssteve @jenniferhedger Lot of butt hurt by the media covering the @MapleLeafs indeed; justifiably so & in fact not enough. Between the reporters, insiders, pod casters and general glut of those seeking clicks a village idiot can see that the manufacturing of rhetoric for clicks isn’t good for the buds

@rwesthead Horrific story. I’ve been a fan of your work for years, Rick. I’ve noticed a completely darkened change the past few years though. Instead of reporting the game itself, trades etc… every single story is an already touched on, horrific story. Thought about detective work?

A former player on the Timmins, Ont., Majors U18 AAA team says he witnessed a veteran player urinating on a younger teammate in the locker room following a game in Sault Ste. Marie. He also says a player smacked him in the face with his penis, that veteran players masturbated in front of younger players in the locker room, and that he watched as a player embraced a naked younger teammate from behind in the shower and simulated a sexual act with him. The player also says he told team officials about an incident in the locker room in late September, when a veteran player allegedly pressured a first-year teammate to place a condom on the veteran’s penis after it had been lying on the floor. The former player's father asks: “Where were the adults in the room?” Timmins police are now investigating.

@_NickRichard It’s embarrassing. Judas should have had his skull ripped from his shoulders. Call me old school but that’s the way it should be. From a fan of 70 years who was a player/coach/GM/scout/administrator. My hope is that this reply could be shown to the players

Cheering for this team makes me feel such great shame. One of the dirtiest players in the league takes out Auston Matthews with a knee-on-knee hit and there’s zero response. Embarrassing.

@nylanderthews Job one FIRE the GM and coach. Job 2 hire a hockey guy with a pulse. I’ve been advocating for @chrispronger for months. It’s fireable offense that Shanahan was not replaced. Job 3 bring in a no nonsense progressive decisive GM and get to work purging the room of non character

Mirtle also says the ownership transition could lead to indecision on Treliving’s future. He believes the people at the top do read what media/fan are saying about the team & chants to fire someone could have an impact He doesn’t think Treliving's back but can’t say for certain

James Mirtle on the Leaf Report says the Leafs are going to change the coach for sure and the longer this goes on the more likely it is they change the GM as well
