@steve_hanke Tell that to the Czechs, Poles, and Russians who moved German borders west and threw out all their Germans in 1945-6. That ended Germany's cycle of violence, if we're trying to learn from history.

In an attempt to ANNEX southern Lebanon, Israel is now setting up fortifications & creating a so-called “buffer zone” between Israel & Lebanon. Israel is already ILLEGALLY occupying about 8% of Lebanon’s territory.

You might want to brush up on your international law before calling it illegal. In his book, De Iure Belli ac Pacis, Grotius, the founder of international law, makes it clear that any nation that has been the victim of aggression can seize such territory from an aggressor to ensure he is incapable of again launching such an aggression. This principle governed many redrawing of borders over the last centuries or two. In Lebanon’s case, its territory has consistently been used since 1948 to attack Israel without provocation. Four times (1948, 1978, 1982, 2006) has Israel, including in 1948, has Israel needed to seize territory up to the Litani River to reverse the aggressions and forestall future ones. Four times (1948, 1978, 1999, 2006) has Israel left the territory to the original, verified Sykes-Picot border line, only to find itself subject to renewed aggressions. After five times, it stands to reason Grotius’ principles can be applied.

@Akhlaqu80145269 @Persianserene1 Suppose the Iranian regime loses, and its people choose to have a government more tolerant of difference and dissent. Would this make you wonder if your understanding of God's will was mistaken? Could anything do so? Or is that understanding impervious to evidence?

Why haven't the evil zionists of Israel made incursions into Jordan? Oh yeah. Because Jordan hasn't allowed itself to be used as a staging spot to attack Israel. Rockets aren't coming into Israel from Jordan & Israel leaves Jordan alone. Amazing how that works.

Remove? Yea like hitler removed the jews from Germany! From oppressed to oppressor, how shameless. Your ancestors died seeking peace and prosperity and this is what you do. End the cycle, war breeds more war, violence more violence and hate more hate! Seek peace you terrors to democracy, now promoting nationalism just like hitler well played. “Does israel have a right to exist?” Get your nationalism propaganda out of here, people have rights not countries. You people learned nothing from history.

@HistoryBoomer 1. It's not going to happen because no country is dumb enough to take in large numbers of Gazans, given the Palestinians' history of causing trouble after such circumstances. 2. Was the removal of millions of Sudeten (etc.) Germans a crime against humanity? It seemed to work.

This is an OpEd in an Israeli paper recommending forcibly removing the entire Palestinian population from the Gaza Strip. That would be ethnic cleansing, a crime against humanity. If they want to lose the support of most Americans, this is the way to do it.

@ExxAlerts People seem to be taking my list as criticism. I'm not an LA resident and so haven't looked into this race closely, but I'd prefer almost anyone over Karen Bass, and I'm not opposed to voting for someone who's an outsider to government, especially after years of ill governance.

ALERT: LA mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt fires back against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass after a reporter asked him if being a “reality TV star” is hurtful for his campaign. “That was from 20 years ago. If we look at what Karen Bass was doing 20 years ago, she was in Cuba learning how to make bombs with the people who would then go bomb Capitol Hill.”

Adam "Shifty" Schiff conspired with Brennan's CIA operative Eric Ciaramella and the fat Vindman twins, as well as British intel operative Fiona Hill, to take out President Trump via the fake Ukraine impeachment, which was a cover up for Russiagate. Schiff was promised the head of the CIA job by Hillary Clinton, and has plotted against the President ever since he didn't get it.
Svetlana Lokhova@RealSLokhova

The reason this is very important today (and way overdue) is because the "whistleblower", CIA operative Eric Ciaramella, conspired with Adam Schiff on this fake Ukraine impeachment of President Trump. The Vindman twins were also involved. Please @DNIGabbard, release it as soon as Chairman Crawford releases it to your Office!

@MattWalshBlog You make reasonable arguments. But you say nothing about the consequences of allowing Iran to build long-range missiles and nuclear weapons. We know they were doing the former because they launched 2. We know they were doing the latter because that's the only use for 60% U235.

Some of us expressed great concern about the Iran War when it was first launched. We were shouted down and condemned as “panicans” and “blackpillers” and even Islamist sympathizers. But it’s pretty clear from how things have gone that our concerns were absolutely reasonable and legitimate. Maybe Trump will get us out of this thing soon and it still won’t spiral into a long and drawn out war. But even if that happens — and I’m not convinced it will — no thoughtful person can deny at this point that the spiral and long war scenario is very much a possibility. No reasonable person, at this stage, can say that our concerns were irrational. What looks irrational now — and always did — is the demand for blind allegiance and unthinking “trust” in our elected leaders, as though we are called to have faith in politicians like we have faith in God.

@georgelemental @orsonscottcard Selling ~1500 anti-tank and anti-air missiles to Iran was unwise, precisely because Iran was at war with the US. But the missiles were sent to get US hostages in Lebanon released and to fund the Contras, and we knew that Iran would use them against Iraq (which had invaded).

“Will Trump prevail in Iran or will this war be his downfall?” It could easily be both. Iran has been at war with the United States and all its neighbors since 1979. It has spawned murders and atrocities and its fanatical leadership has sought — and found — means of overwhelming the defenses of other nations. Not just nukes, but icbms and drones, which it aims at military and nonmilitary targets indiscriminately. The only way to find out a threat was imminent is to suffer the consequences of not acting preemptively. Somebody had to neutralize the Iranian threat, and the only nation with the power to do it is the US, and the only leader with the wisdom and the spine to do it is Trump. If Trump succeeds, his fanatical enemies in the US, who support causes every bit as insane as Iran's, will claim that the destruction of Iran's evil government was not “necessary,” because, see? They didn't have nukes. So just as the leaders of France and the UK would have been ousted if they had crushed Hitler back when it could have been done almost bloodlessly, and completely legally under the terms of the Versailles treaty, Trump will never be able to prove what “would have happened,” and his enemies, who have proven their contempt for law and their desire to create a permanent one-party state, will probably succeed in their aims. They will control the history-writing — they already control most of the press and universities — and so the fact that Trump preemptively saved the world from an evil warmongering state will be flipped on its head, and HE will be declared the evil warmonger. But if the attempt to suppress Iran fails, which will probably be the case if Trump does not deploy troops to break the back of the Iranian regime on the ground, the consequences will be so dire that again, Trump will be blamed for having “provoked” Iran with a “needless” war. So unless the American electorate behaves with unexpected wisdom, this attack is probably the most necessary and self-destructive act of Trump's administration. Necessary, because the fools who governed us from 2009-2017 and 2021-2025 did nothing but appease Iran's tyrants and enable them to oppress their own population while causing or abetting the worst state and nonstate actors in the world. Trump's successors, even if they have the will, will not have the power to destroy America's worst antagonists. The moment of possibility is now, Trump has taken it, and no matter how it turns out, it will be the weapon his fanatical, anti-democratic enemies use to destroy him.

@orsonscottcard There is another way to positively defeat Iran without boots on the ground: kill the body and the head will die. Take out water, power, energy, industry. Could be down in a short while, easily achieved with air dominance. You can't fight the enemy if you're fighting for your life

@McFaul It's not bizarre at all. Russia owns Trump and Putin benefits from keeping Trump in power. The oil revenue just saved their economy. Putin will hold the Kompromat over Trump's head, while disclosing to Iran the location of American troops.

@McFaul The US is supplying arms to Ukraine, and not to Russia. Trump's attack on Russia's ally (and until recently, weapon supplier) Iran are the opposite of being a "friend" to Russia. Trump butters up Putin, as he generally speaks of adversaries with whom he may need to negotiate.
