@ChrisMartzWX Fiat currency is not the problem. Deficit spending is. Governments with metallic currency have failed throughout history. We have a moral problem, not a monetary problem.

Nobody should pay property taxes. State-level sales taxes on non-essential items could generate more than enough revenue to keep the fire and police departments running, as well as paving + maintaining duh roadz. I have run the numbers for several states with back-of-the-envelope calculations. Some of the non-tourist states would need higher sales tax rates, but it’d still save residents money and if we finally eliminated fiat currency and backed the dollar with physical gold again, it would ensure that our money is spent wisely. But if any age demographic specifically should be exempt from paying property taxes, it’s young people who are trying to get their feet anchored and build a life, which is more difficult for zoomers like me to do than previous generations.

@Drewshearer444 @Grok, what does this mean in terms of the likelihood of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in the Little Rock area?

The 18z SHV sounding shows what could be a very big issue for most of the severe setup in Arkansas. With very limited daytime heating except for SW AR, it may be very hard to get a surface-based supercell with that strong EML in place. An LZK sounding would be very nice.

After an active end to April, we're entering into a generally unfavorable pattern for widespread severe weather across most of the US, thanks to the evolution of a fairly persistent East Coast trough and western US ridge. This looks to remain through the first couple weeks of May. The exception looks to be around the Tuesday-Thursday time frame next week, as a robust jet streak translates into the southern US, coupled with ample moisture return.

@JamesBryantWX I'm guessing that this means that you strongly disagree with StormNet's prediction based on currently available data? I sure hope you're right. That bullseye right over LR is not good.

@StormNetWx Oh, and another two to the south, one in the blue and one in the gray zones.

The probabilistic bullseye was in Kansas, around the centroid of the tornado reports (so far). There were strong tornadoes in northern Oklahoma south of the probabilistic bullseye, the threat was more conditional (lower confidence) with a high ceiling (which was met).

Here are the 5-day and 2-day StormNet tornado forecasts with reports overlaid from the April 23rd tornado event.

@StormNetWx 4 of the tornadoes were in Iowa, well outside of the probabilistic bullseye, with three in the blue "Low" risk area and the remaining one apparently right on the border between the blue and green "Medium" risk area. Is that acceptable or does it warrant further adjustments?

@RonDodson We've had satellites in geo orbits for 50+ years. Satellites at that distance lose resolution, which can partially be made up with technology. Whatever tech China is using is prob a copy of what we've been using for 20+ years. GEO/LEO both have advantages and disadvantages.

1. The U.S. is not a party to the Law of the Sea treaty 2. Any U.S. toll or tariff would be an “escort fee” paid to reimburse cost of U.S. military protection, which is perfectly legitimate 3. There are no international waters in the Strait. The strait is 21 miles wide. Territorial waters are 12 miles from the coasts.

Can you find your county on a map without it being labeled? Pro tip for storm season: Know where your county is on a map and familiarize what counties border you. This will help you greatly. This is not a post to slander anyone, some people just struggle to find themselves on maps. This can make it tough when reading forecast information. Learn your county name, what part of the county you live in and what counties border you. It would also be helpful to learn what region of Arkansas you live in. Whether it’s northern, western, central, southern, or eastern Arkansas. If you do learn and study these things, storm season information broadcasted to you will become easy to understand. Severe weather is possible for some (not all) of Arkansas today. Remain weather aware through the afternoon and early evening hours. Any Cong'l term limits has to be accompanied by staff term limits or some other restriction on staff power.

Congress employs roughly 18,500 staffers. If each of them opens the Punchbowl newsletter three to four times per week, that alone produces around 65,000 impressions. The implication: Punchbowl’s core audience is Congress itself. That suggests a circular model: 1. Sponsors purchase advertising in Punchbowl News. 2. Punchbowl maintains direct access to Senator Thune. 3. Senator Thune advances priorities aligned with those sponsors, validating the value of their advertising. 4. Sponsors then donate to Senator Thune and other members of Congress through PACs. 5. The cycle repeats. A similar dynamic happens around Axios and Politico Playbook. And no lectures on "this is how it's always worked in DC." This, right there, is why DC is a failure.
