I didn't have friends or relatives with young kids. Many, if not all, of the catalysts in my case were stories (more examples attached). Even after the initial spark of "maybe I should reconsider this," I spent YEARS thinking it over because it is such a life-changing decision.

One thing that’s been made abundantly clear with this entire HowlingMutant thing Libtards are painfully unfunny people. They perform for their friends and in groups, where the bar for success is “subscribe to Leftism”. It’s strikingly similar to insulated puritan circles where they will turn a blind eye to blatantly bad performance (music, public speaking, etc) as long as whatever is being done is in service to the ideology. Probably so strikingly similar because Leftism is as strong a religion in every tangible way as Puritanism. And, much like hardline Puritanism, its dogma can only survive if it is in a constant state of being affirmed and repeated by its followers. Which means it’s far more important to affirm and repeated the dogma than it is to tell the truth or be comically critical.

I'll add one: In elementary school, I was always stuck at the back of the class despite having severe hearing loss. I remember one day I was just in the back of the class working, and all of a sudden the teacher slams her hands onto my desk and yells, "Are you on medication?!" I answered in the affirmative since I had recently been to the doctor and was taking antibiotics. That was apparently not the correct answer. But my school memories are full of events like that.

Dear readers, Please don’t be fooled. The author will comment and retweet this to try and convince you that books that make you think are too complex, too long, a thing of the past. They want to convince you that you don’t need them and that you should be reading 90-page-shoot ‘em up-novellas. They want your attention span to continue to shrink so that they can sell you 4 books a year that they rush through writing. They want you to look Pulitzer Prize winner like THE GOLDFINCH and say “800 pages? That’s too long” because then you aren’t reading their books. But if you don’t, you’ll lose so much about life, about humanity. Don’t let them do this to you. Books are like paintings. They are meant to be lingered on, dissected, spoken to, and shared. Don’t let them take that away from you. It’s all we have left. - KF
