Jagex doesn’t just neglect PvP, they abandoned it and let it rot. PvP was one of the biggest reasons OSRS even came back. It built the game’s early hype + fueled entire content creator careers and was the centerpiece of countless marketing pushes. Yet for years now Jagex has treated it like an afterthought. Cheat clients run 24/7 and only get addressed when players do the policing themselves. The Wilderness is flooded with bots. What used to be the most dangerous part of the game has been redesigned to cater to PvMers instead of actual PvP. Wilderness bosses are absurdly overpowered compared to players but the risk is optional because they were moved below level 30. Mage Bank, and other various pking locations (dragons, single strip, etc) once the most feared areas in the game are all ghost towns. The PJ timer erased the chaotic/fun with your friends dynamic that defined Wilderness fights and somehow people thought this was a good thing. On top of that you have insanely strong power creep weapons, over 600 worlds spreading players thin, bosses/monsters moved to dungeons which fragments hotspots, cheap gear setups, and escape mechanics that make dying increasingly unlikely. The result is a Wilderness that barely functions as PvP anymore. Same with PvP worlds. Everyone just sits at the GE and if you remember PvP worlds up until maybe 2019 it was filled with pkers at every city, middle of varrock, lumby, draynor and they have all been completely retired as well. Bounty Hunter had 10+ iterations and all of them sucked. This current version is horrible and I’m surprised it hasn’t also been removed. the worst part is it’s probably intentional. PvP causes controversy, PvM doesn’t. It’s easier for Jagex to cater to PvMers while quietly leaving PvP in a state where it’s technically still there but effectively dead.
