@MrShermichael Based on which election? Lots of split party ballots, especially in the south.

One radical idea: end gerrymandering through at-large U.S. House seats apportioned by partisan voting patterns. Example: 30 percent of a state votes for Democrats? There are 10 seats in that state in total? 3 go to Democrats. The same would apply for my party. It’s fair, reflects the way people really vote and is more representative than the salamander shaped districts we currently see. Math is fair, everyone understands it, and if voters want to change the apportionment, they have to register and vote differently.

I’ve always felt Donnan’s time in Athens has been slightly underrated because of what Richt did going 13-1 two years into the job in 2002. Donnan inherited a team that lost 11-7 to Southern Miss in his first game, and got beaten 52-17 at home vs Florida in 1995. They went 5-6 in 1996. Donnan modernized the offense and called his own plays. By 1997 he took a group of seniors that included Hines Ward, Robert Edwards, Kirby Smart and Mike Bobo, and went 10-2. They held Heisman winning RB Ron Dayne to 36 YDS on 14 carries in the Outback Bowl. By the time he left he had broken the longest losing streaks in school history to both Florida and Tennessee, and dramatically upgraded the roster. He left Richt with David Greene, David Pollack, Terrence Edwards, Musa Smith, Randy McMichael, George Foster and many other talented/draftable guys who became the core of the 2002 team. The 1997 Florida game and 2000 Tennessee games will be the ones he’s remembered for most though. At least in my opinion. Those were the two Berlin Wall type moments in modern UGA history.

@GScottShand Those swing states aren’t fixed, though. Florida used to be the ultimate swing state and is now solidly red. Georgia was solidly red and is now purple. Same for North Carolina.

I see this defense often, but it's a weak one. The electoral college actually incentivizes a very narrow geographical focus on a handful of "swing states" to the detriment of the country at large.
