The following article calls to account for a decade-long pattern that, in the name of fighting antisemitism, has instead undermined the safety and integrity of Jewish communities worldwide. All claims are grounded in publicly available evidence from the last ten years. The Weapon That Backfired: How the Exploitation of Antisemitism Harms Jews Everywhere. For the last ten years, a disturbing tactic has escalated: the systematic weaponisation of antisemitism by the Israeli government, allied advocacy groups, and some self-appointed guardians of Jewish safety. Their strategy is not to combat genuine Jew-hatred — a very real and resurgent danger — but to exploit the accusation of antisemitism as a political cudgel. This weaponisation silences criticism of Israeli state policy, crushes Palestinian rights advocacy, and, in a cruel irony, places Jewish communities around the world in greater peril. The evidence is overwhelming, and the harm is no longer deniable. The New Definition Wars: IHRA as a Silencing Tool The cornerstone of this decade’s weaponisation is the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) “working definition of antisemitism”. Adopted in 2016, the text itself is unobjectionable, but it is accompanied by 11 examples, seven of which explicitly target criticism of Israel. These include claiming that Israel’s existence is a “racist endeavour”, applying double standards to Israel, and comparing contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis. What followed was a global push — often by Israeli diplomats and organisations like the American Jewish Committee — to codify this definition, with its examples, into law, university speech codes, and employment regulations. By 2024, over 1,200 entities worldwide had adopted it. The problem is not the definition per se, but how it has been enforced. University administrations, local councils, and HR departments have used the IHRA examples to cancel lectures, fire academics, and ban student groups — not for targeting Jews, but for criticising Israel. Evidence of this chilling effect is substantial. In 2022, the European Legal Support Centre documented 42 cases across Europe where activists and scholars faced sanctions under IHRA-misapplied codes for speech that would be considered protected political expression in any healthy democracy. In the UK, a professor at the University of Bristol was hauled through a five-year disciplinary process (eventually exonerated in 2022) simply for referencing the concept of “Israeli apartheid” in a lecture. No student or colleague alleged they were targeted as Jews; the complaint was purely ideological. This is the weapon at work — it renders a political state immune from the scrutiny applied to any other nation.

@Deeboarder @21WIRE Nobody gives a fuck. Worry about your kin getting beheaded by foreigners and the police cracking down on people protesting it.

@owenjonesjourno If you think the US lost the war, you must be determined to prove you're a terrific combination of stupid, ignorant, and mentally ill.

Here’s what’s happened, Mark. You spent years craving a US war with Iran. You got your war, and then the US lost that war. It’s really not very complicated!

FG is dancing to SF’s tune. It’s all about preening their republican credentials. However, they can publish as many greenprints as they like on Irish Unity - it won’t move the dial that matters. More likely, it will strengthen unionist resolve to neither be coerced or cajoled out of the United Kingdom!

Sinn Fein, the political wing of the IRA, are rushing to the defence of foreign nationals working in Belfast hospitals. In 1987 the IRA murdered 20-year-old Marie Wilson who was a nurse in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.

Mark, maybe read it a third and a fourth time. The problem is not the statement. The problem is that Israel repeatedly drag entire nations toward wider conflicts and then expect the world to absorb the consequences. Israel does not speak for Jews, and it does not speak in our name.

@FIFAWorldCup Scotland were absolutely battered by Haiti for most of the match and are very lucky to get away with that win. The second half was all Haiti who couldn't score despite a couple of good chances for Pierrot. This is the high point for Scotland; you're going home after the groups.
