@BreeSolstad My church once sent a prayer team to a psychic convention and we got to minister to a lot of hurting people looking for healing. Send the prayer team.

There is a witches convention coming to town and there’s an internal debate amongst a group at my Church. Half of us want to go the convention to pray outside it with Rosary prayers & hymns. The other half are fearful & say it could put us in spiritual danger. What do you say?

I think it's ridiculous that about 80% of the 115 GB storage space on my current laptop (got it 2nd hand so I know beggars can't be choosers) is taken up by apps and system data that I cannot remove from the laptop.

We do not need to Cinema Sin Harry Potter. This is children's fantasy, it operates with a different set of promises to the reader. The target demographic of the first book, and arguably up to only a few of the last books are kids. In children's books, the kids do cool things that they would never pull off in real life. This is how the genre has always operated, and how it would still operate today if modern writers weren't self focused and inept.

I was rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone the other day, and I have to say… …how secure could the sorcerer’s stone have possibly been if the defenses were so easily overcome by a trio of 11-year-olds? 😑

Thinking of buying a million copies of Winters in the World and handing them out to friends, family, strangers like a street-corner evangelist. Yes, it’s that good. The sort of book that changes not only your thinking but the way you inhabit this world. Everyone must read it.

@MrLandesman In literature class we read the vocabulary word in context and I use it as a moment to teach them how to discern meanings from unknown words using the context of the passage. They're getting very good at it.

Why do so many teachers start teaching a new vocabulary word or term like scene 1 here "do you know what covet means" instead of just telling students what it means? From Bringing Words to Life.

@mrdavidrowe @JamesAFurey In my area “Bible Believing Church” is usually code for Baptist or Baptist church pretending to be nondenominational.

@JamesAFurey From my experience, when evangelicals say “Bible Believing Church” they are more likely to mean “not liberal” than “not Catholic”.

When I first declared my belief in God on here, the response was overwhelmingly positive, except a strain of people who told me to find a “Bible believing Church.” I didn’t realize until later that this was Protestant speak for “not Catholic.” Here’s the thing though: some people’s reading of the Bible will be, let’s just say…wildly wrong. Tradition and authority are guardrails against wildly subjective readings of the Word.

@HeathTaws @MBTS This is bigger than infant baptism. I can fellowship and worship with my Presbyterian brothers. Wading in the Tiber is something different altogether.

If anyone wants to know why I am greatly concerned over young men I care deeply for being lured away from Baptist theology at @MBTS, I submit the evidence below. This, in addition to the concerns I expressed yesterday, only exacerbates my trepidation. At what point are we going to get full-throated answers and assurances?
Matthew Barrett@MattMBarrett

One joy in becoming Anglican has been watching a number of former students become Anglican too. Yesterday was special. Several baptized their children, some here at St. Aidan's in KC and some across the country. Favorite line: Almighty and everlasting Father, in your great mercy you saved Noah and his family in the Ark from the destruction of the flood, prefiguring the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.

Begging evangelical churches to please sing traditional Christmas hymns. I do make a habit of introducing my 4th graders to a wide variety of hymns but when they’ve never heard We Three Kings? 😒😓 Like come on. It’s up there w/some students never hearing Be Thou My Vision.

@BradfemlyWalsh Having worked in the tourism industry for several years, it's astounding to me that a lot of the people who can afford to travel (both American and European) are some of the silliest people out there.

My guilty pleasure is lurking on the travel Reddits where Americans ask for advice on insane European travel itineraries. They seem particularly fond of expecting to do lots of things on Xmas Day and Boxing Day. This one is a classic of the genre. I'm almost tempted to comment 😆

@koshitantankohi @NielsHoven In the US, kindergarten is not preschool but the first year of formal school. Kindergarten begins at the age of 5 in most states. Preschool (ages 3-4) is optional.

@NielsHoven I'm confused, isn't the post talking about kindergarten? As in, pre-school, not school? A 3 year old that still has issues going to the toilet on their own isn't super unusual. Or a 4 year old who can't recite the alphabet.
