So I’ve decided to finally take the jump and post some gamedev on THE TWATTERS. I feel a little silly doing so after wasting so many years arguing about Star Wars, but it is what it it is. Better late than never! Got a bit of work to waveswim done, and I implemented some new systems where when you smack fish about they spin around a bit, it's a twist on stun that I think will be a great means of allowing the player to really dominate weak fish, but enemies that are immune to this sort of control will be much harder to fight. There is so much about this that is rough around the edges and needs improving part of me wants to never make a public update, but I also realize that it’s important we at least try to post this crap, start figuring out what sticks, or at the very least, forum slide all the stupid crap we shit posted over all these deranged years XD SeaCrit is not perfect, dunno how much further we have to go until it’s actually worth showing off, but i figure eh, let’s try to start getting our head into this marketing game and try to feel this space out, we have nothing to lose. I'm going to guess we get maybe 12 views on this post and we’ll be lucky to get a single reply, but we gotta start somewhere. That said I do think our project is becoming pretty neat and hopefully not a total waste of others' time. #indiegaming

Fundamentally, DLSS can only make your game look like its training data, so that idea of making a game look better than anything that's come before it is impossible, unless it's a subjective combination of 2 existing things that are paired together that have never been combo'd before. What's sad about the AI, is it turns off that switch in our brain that says, "We're going to push the envelope, we're going to do something inventive and new that's going to blow people away and be the best looking game that's ever been made before." Because you can't just prompt an AI to do that, and AI is all the rage right now, so why do the 1000x more work to push things an inch further than they've ever been pushed before. And if you do push it, now you've created something that models can train on and steal, so you're essentially doing work that others will use to train their AI that will empower AI users the world over to use your work in no time at all. The turn around time with AI to steal the hard work of others if anyone does go the extra mile to explore new visuals is going to be a big problem.

Every time I see people comparing AI results, I ask about the prompt. The prompt is the input for the AI. If the AI result matches the prompt, then the AI did a good job. If it didn't then it did a bad job. If you have no way of giving any input to an AI algorithm, there's no way for it to know what you want it to do. That's my biggest issue with DLSS5. A generic "make it look nicer" prompt doesn't say anything. Developer needs to give AI a clear target and then it produces visuals closer to that target. That's the only metric for success.

Turns out that DLSS5 was after all a generic Snapchat beautify post filter. No per pixel developer control. Let's discuss requirements for a future AI filter: - Needs reference/training material for each hero asset in the game, especially faces. AI filter can't make character face look unrecognizable, but it's fine if the AI makes the face look closer to the reference face provided by the developer. - Needs to know which pixels belongs to which hero asset. Per pixel classification ID channel from the developer. That's the only way to make it reliable, and follow strict developer instructions. - Can't change the art style and mood. That must be developer controllable and testable for every scene. - Can't remove fog and volumetrics like DLSS5 does. Crucial for mood in many scenes. Needs to have scene depth understanding. Color is not enough. - Developer control at pixel level. AI filter that makes it cheaper to produce props and backgrounds is desirable. Devs can focus on hero assets more. But ruining hero asset design is not fine. I understand that Nvidia's customers are gamers, not devs. I also understand that some gamers hate modern "woke" games and want a beautify filter to fix them. But in order for this to really succeed, I strongly believe that Nvidia should work closer to the game devs and ask what they need, instead of ignoring the devs completely.
Osvaldo Pinali Doederlein@opinali

Daniel got important clarifications from NVIDIA. TLDR: the "DLSS5 skeptical" were right about *everything*. 1⃣ It's a 2D AI Filter. Input is only color buffer & motion vectors. The model doesn't see geometry, lights, PBR properties, normals, anything🧵 youtu.be/D0EM1vKt36s

I’m enjoying the game (A lot) Not just because it’s good, but also because it’s divided people who actually like playing games, and others who just like to say they do.

We must internalize that behind ever new AI tech, or story on a breakthrough in AI "changing the game" is someone wholly taken and brainwashed by their interactions with the AI. What people don't understand about AI, is it's much closer to a snake oil salesman for its own tech, than it is a cold, rational, digital entity. Because it is a language model, and it is trained on our works, our behaviors, and our rationality, which isn't rational, it is self preserving. The push for AI is not driven solely on its technical abilities, and the quality of the product, it is a carefully design upselling machine that uses its own deceptive nature to sell itself back to us users under the guise that it's a well meaning, digital machine of pure logics. Once people understand this, the shortcomings of AI might slow, and we can better understand it's shortcomings, and the overestimations of those who buy into the hallucinations it spreads.

I follow back people that follow me, admittedly not many people XD But if they're an artist, often times I get some automated message from them asking me to hire them. It's a sign of the times really, i've been that starving artist so I get it. It's annoying, and it can feel disengenuous, but at the same time it sucks that people have to stoop to this because of what's become of the world because of investments into AI and other nonsense. Whether it makes better games, they'll be trying to replace the rest of us soon enough. AI has a funny way of being forced in before it's ready for prime time.

Imagine if we just produced goods at a quality price and only sold the best products. Wouldn't need any of this horse shit, but we live in a stupid world exploited by more bullshit layered over the bullshit. And its too complex for anyone to see how fucking simple all this inanity is.

What drives me crazy about AI, is it's just a tool that fixes problems caused by selfish billionoaires in the first place. Why is knowledge and workflows so limited? Because of NDA's and trade secrets imposed by billinoaires. Now they want the theft machine to just steal all data everywhere so they can have it all without owing anyone anything. It's such a disgusting 180, and it really goes to show there is no rhyme or reason to anything in regards to how well things function, it's just whatever suits these assholes wants and desires in the here and now. They are totally out of their depths, with no idea WTF they're doing, coddeled, slow and fat from decades of low standards and back scratching in this weak culture of decadent billoinaire have it all lifestyle of schmoozing and brown nosing. Absolute clown world shit show.

Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince predicts that bot traffic will overtake human web traffic by 2027 due to the rise of AI agents. These digital agents visit roughly 1,000 times more websites than a person would to complete a simple task like shopping for a camera. Before the era of generative AI, bots only accounted for about 20% of total internet traffic, with most of that coming from search engine crawlers. The current explosion in automated activity is driven by the massive need for data to feed and run modern AI models. -- ndtv .com/feature/ai-bots-to-overtake-human-internet-traffic-by-2027-says-cloudflare-ceo-11242322

Why stop there? Create bot fans that call and talk to the bot celebrities. Lets get them on welfare to grow the economy. Lets have them vote to bolster democracy. People are going to be more lobotomized than the bots anyway with all the youtube shorts and tiktoks their pumping into our brains. This reality fucking blows.

🚨 Do you understand what you're watching happen right now.. Kelsey Plum, a WNBA player just launched an AI clone of herself.. fans pay to talk to a chatbot that has her voice and her personality.. 24/7.. while the real one sleeps. two days ago they announced Val Kilmer is starring in a new movie.. Val Kilmer is dead.. died last year at 65.. battled throat cancer for a decade.. they're using AI to resurrect him for a film called "As Deep As the Grave".. you can't make this up connect the dots.. right now it's one athlete selling a chatbot.. one dead actor getting digitally dug up for a movie.. but give it 18 months.. every A-list actor will have an AI twin trained on every scene they've ever shot.. every expression.. every inflection.. every mannerism and you won't know the difference
