Downticket races cost a fraction of a Presidential campaign’s $500M. In comparison, the Senate race in Nebraska, a near-tie, is <$2 million total, both sides. Legislative races cost even less, <$100k. Your donation means a lot. Learn more: votemaximizer.org
.@GregTSargent

Unfortunate: @amandalitman tells me on the pod that state-level candidates are not getting the donor money they need. People are "throwing money" at top of the ticket and Super PACs, she says, but "downballot candidates are still struggling for resources." newrepublic.com/article/184981…

I am really grateful to be selected by the @BBRFoundation for its Young Investigator award (NARSAD). In mice, we will leverage timing to the respiratory cycle as a novel method for potentiating repetitive brain stimulation to expedite fear extinction.

Bonus: a late addition to the work I'm especially proud of is Fig. 10, which shows how the strength of sharp waves/ripples, and their coupling to single-unit activity, is weakened throughout dorsal and ventral hippocampus (6/6)

Moreover, given the distinct functional roles of dorsal (cognitive/spatial) vs. ventral (affective/social) hippocampus, our results offer a way of studying the constellation of neuropsychiatric symptoms seen in patients with Alzheimer disease (5/6)

If you're a neuroscientist, you've probably heard that congress passed final appropriations for FY24, with deep cuts (~40%) to BRAIN Initiative. Advocates are now pushing for +$740 million in FY25 and @SfNtweets made it easy for you to add your voice here: sfn.org/Advocacy/Advoc…

To everyone who has been shocked and depressed by the staggering 40% cut to the BRAIN Initiative: we have a voice! Outside Witness Testimony (aka written testimony) for the FY 2025 appropriations cycle is ongoing. Deadline for the House side is Friday May 3 and the Senate side is Friday May 24. Let's all write in with our thoughts about what this cut means for scientific progress and for medical advances to help patients suffering the most devastating neurological and psychiatric illnesses. Please see instruction links and more information here: House Outside Witness Testimony: appropriations.house.gov/sites/evo-subs… Senate Outside Witness Testimony: appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/… Please RT @SfNtweets @MichaelJFoxOrg @alzassociation @alsassociation

It is worth watching this CNN video from the moment Emory Econ Professor @CarolineFohlin came across the violent arrest of a protester on campus and asked the police, with shock, "What are you doing?" That's all that prompted an officer to hurl her to the ground and handcuff her.

A CNN crew witnessed at least two professors detained by Atlanta police, including @EmoryUniversity economics professor Caroline Fohlin and Noëlle McAfee, chair of the philosophy department. #FreePalestine cnn.com/business/live-…

@edmundlalor @JohnnyFoxe @Adobe I used Mendeley a lot in early grad school for pdf annotation (and reference management), it was working great until I hit some sort of storage limit and it would no longer let me upload pdfs

Newest version of @Adobe Reader almost appears to have been deliberately designed to make annotating pdfs more difficult. Does anyone have a tip for good software for annotating pdfs (e.g., when reviewing scientific articles)? I have reverted to the old version of Reader for now.

Last night, the County Legislature voted to put corporate interests over those of the people. @CountyExecBello is largely responsible for this outcome. If he’d come out in favor of a study, the Dem majority would have passed it. Instead he chose to carry water for RG&E (1/2)

“In my entire time living in the City of Rochester and Monroe County, I have never once heard a single person say one good thing about RG&E, and I think that is evident of the public sentiment on the issue - and it is your job to represent that.”
Metro Justice@MetroJustice

Students for a public power study! The UR Student Association, representing 6,000 Monroe County residents who are also stuck with RG&E, calls on the County Legislature to approve a public power study, calling it the “morally right thing to do.”
