If you are a leader or mentor, it’s important to remember that each person you lead and mentor is different, and none of them are a replica of you.

@Ekkekakis How many more times do you think you'll have to state this before folks start to understand? (rhetorical question🤦‍♂️)

Remember: If you use the PANAS in the context of exercise, it is crucial to explain why low-activation pleasant (calm, relaxed, serene, tranquil) and low-activation unpleasant (tired, fatigued, exhausted, bored) states were deliberately excluded from the scope of measurement.

We spend millions to implement research based practices. BUT, we ignore the extensive research that shows how play, recess, & physical activity, can improve focus, self regulation, and on task behavior, as well as academic achievement, interpersonal skills & mental health.

I don’t know where the idea came from that being mean to people in your research group will lead to higher productivity, but it needs to end. Not only is this unethical, but it is also ineffective. The best research happens when people are supported and treated with kindness.

Lets be willing to listen, to truly think through risk versus reward, or cost-benefit analysis. The more I think through things like these two, the more I think the cost far outweighs the benefit. Lets keep the conversation going. Asking for grace, and offering appreciation.

I'll probably post more on this over the next couple of months once I can really wrestle with and then better articulate my thoughts around a few ideas related to sport and more importantly the environment and structures around sport (be it youth or collegiate). 1/?

A treadmill specifically engineered for HIIT, built by a company named "Assault." And if you don't believe me, it's endorsed by none other than Joe Rogan. I bet you can "unlock your potential" by training for less than 10 seconds per day, maybe even less than 5. Or 3.

Missing my colleagues attending the #NAK2022 meeting in Providence, RI. I'm sure it will be an awesome gathering, with knowledge sharing and reconnecting. I look forward to being with you all in 2023.

Students regularly send me emails thanking me for things that I consider to be basic human kindness (actual examples: extending a deadline if a student is sick, responding to emails). The bar is so unbelievably low for professors.

Today was our first day of classes and I had the butterflies at midnight last night wondering how I could make an impact today. I have been doing this here for 23 yrs and I hope I never stop having those butterflies at the start of the semester
