Today I was invited to a very good friends place of worship. They were on the drums for the praise team for todays service… and they did amazing. I learned a lot today. Today’s sermon was part of a series, that the place of worship was doing on prophets. I not only got to witness many baptisms today, but I landed on the sermon about prophet Jonah. God tasked Jonah with traveling to Nineveh and preach to them. Teach them of their actions and the need to repent before God. Well Jonah, he wasn’t having it. Basically Jonah couldn’t stand people from Nineveh. They wronged him. Dude straight up skeeved the idea of them repenting as a community for their sins. He went to the port and went 500mi in the opposite direction. “✌️Deuces I’m out!” - Jonah… maybe 🧔🏽‍♂️ Gods like yea… 🧜🏽‍♂️🐋 Jonah, homie? Be still? What’s your deal? Jonah’s like look, I know that if I go there, they’ll be like, you know what, we’re sorry, and I can’t handle that… ugh.. I don’t like them. They did me dirty… Todays sermon put a lot into perspective about the Lord's Prayer too. Jonah makes that prayer, make a lot more sense. "Forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil... " Jonah tried to skip the first part... he couldn’t forgive, he let that hurt, turn to pride, and that pride turned to disobedience. Him not wanting to be lead into temptation, was him running away. It was fear of how he would react when he saw the Ninevites, the hurt and anger inside him. His desire to not be led to anger was his justification for bouncing, to not be led into temptation, deliver himself from evil… The evil that's traveling within him… He couldn’t understand that the inability to forgive those who trespassed against him, lead him into temptation, into disobeying God. The pride was evil. How many times have we thought twice about people, or groups or places that we’ve had bad experiences with in the past? Have we ever reflected in that experience and thought how any of our actions impacted the negative outcome? Have we forgiven? Have we discussed? Have we healed? I get it, every experience is unique. You’re probably trying to justify one of those unique situations… (Jonah did that😉) A lot of the Bible is symbolic, maybe what swallowed Jonah wasn’t a 🐋, but maybe his pride from an inability to forgive. The weight of a whale, the resentment, the envy, the rage… Forgiveness doesn’t mean they get the same access, but maybe God chose them, to build you, like God chose you to build them. Julius Caesar says that experience is the teacher of all things… isn’t it funny that all of Gods prophets and chosen one’s experienced many things before the great things? Matthew 5:7-11 7  Blessed are the merciful,
    for they will be shown mercy. 8  Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God. 9  Blessed are the peacemakers,
    for they will be called children of God. 10  Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Another take, God used the 🐋 to baptize Jonah again, purify his heart and thoughts… kind of like the baptisms I witnessed today. Baptisms don’t just purify those baptized, it reaffirms those walking on their path also. Those witnessing recall the joy they feel and felt. Or, the joy the can’t wait to feel. You may not be a person of faith, but many faiths teach of love and kindness. That’s what I wish for you regardless if you believe it not. Blessings to you! Thank you for reading.
