Unfortunately, I think this is smart. Sequels tend to lock out/bounce back a degree of new people who haven’t done their homework (think kingdom hearts 3), so this way allows any game to be someone’s first rather than having to wait over a decade for another zelda entry point.

I think people need to realize that Bowser's arc in this movie is choosing friends or his son. He loves his son more than anything so he chose him. He doesn't like having to choose but he couldn't have both (at least not yet). #SuperMarioGalaxyMovie
