@DriveRehab

Urbanista who rides an e-bike in and around Sunnyside, NY. Passionate about street safety. Too many bodies and brains have been destroyed by drivers.

@votejgr Thank you remember Gonzalez Rojas for your tireless advocacy resulting in Sammy law. Too bad it was too late for this little child.

Today another child was hit by a car on their way to school in my district. He was holding his sister's hand when it happened. How many more children have to get hurt before we prioritize kids lives over politics? We must pass Sammy’s Law in the budget!!

Save the Bliss Theatre. For nearly 50 years @ThaliaTheatreNY has done amazing work benefiting our community. Should Thalia relocate to the Bliss Theatre it will allow Thalia to expand on their good work while preserving the Bliss Theatre!chng.it/bKLdyk47 via @Change

New York City needs to be able to control its own speed limits. Albany must pass #SammysLaw in the budget, and give NYC another tool to fight traffic violence. transalt.org/safe

Red light cameras work, and we must listen to the data to prioritize the safety of all road users by getting the most dangerous drivers, who are responsible for a disproportionate number of crashes, off the road
NYC DOT@NYC_DOT

Red light cameras reduce crashes & change driver behavior. We're asking Albany to renew NYC's red light camera program beyond the 150 intersections now allowed & to pass legislation that would suspend vehicle registrations with 5+ red light camera violations in 12 months.

@michael_terk @SenGianaris As the family of Officer Diller well knows, there is an awful price paid by "actual cops making stops." Automated enforcement is fair and does not see the PBA courtesy card. Although these tickets go to the owner who may not be the driver, they will get the owner's attention!

@SenGianaris But it goes to the owner, not the driver. Driver doesn’t even get points, and can continue the mayhem in another car. Targeting drivers requires actual cops making stops and giving tickets. Using cameras instead of cops is cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

@AmericanFietser 72yo e-bike rider. 2 total knee replacements. I create errands in order to get out and on the bike. One concession, kid convinced me to get a foldable bike, just incase there a problem on my ride I could be picked up and the bike put in the trunk. 💙💙⚡️🚲

In 2015, a woman named Joy Milne claimed she could smell Parkinson's disease. She first noticed the smell after her husband’s musk changed. After her husband was diagnosed with the disease, the pair attended a support group for individuals with Parkinson’s. During the first support meeting she attended, she noticed everyone had the same musk as her husband. She became convinced that the smell was linked to the disease so she reached out to a university professor. To test Joy’s ability, Professor Perdita Barran from the university of Manchester gave her 12 T-shirts to smell. 6 of the shirts were worn by individuals with Parkinson’s and the other 6 were worn by healthy individuals. Joy correctly identified the 6 shirts, but also chose one from the control group. 8 months later, that person was diagnosed with Parkinson's.

Buses are the only form of public transit which are fully accessible. That fact, alone, justifies @SenGianaris bill. But there is so much more reason to support buses. We need dedicated bus lanes and buses equipped with cameras to ticket any vehicle that obstructs their path.
Sen. Mike Gianaris@SenGianaris

New York’s buses need a boost, which is why I'm calling for $90 million in this year's budget for the @MTA to #GetCongestionPricingRight. By making buses fast, frequent, and fare-free, we can offer New Yorkers a viable alternative to driving downtown

As a rider of an electric pedal-assist bicycle I support the push for legislation banning the sale and use of non-certified (either UL or IEC) batteries. I know some folks are concerned about increased costs for those who need their bikes for work but that can be addressed in...

@mets4_life @jehiah Wouldn’t you think they could get away faster if they were lined up in the direction of travel? The city should do everything it can to incentivize its employees to use public transit. If they do that it will be plenty of space for the getaway cars in regular parking spaces.

@drsanjaygupta Fascinating interview, but distressing to hear your allegiance to large SUV vehicles which kill and maim - especially vulnerable road users - accounting for over 42000 annual road fatalities in the US. @NYC_SafeStreets @Fam4SafeStreets SUVs : bikes :: machine guns : sling shots.

I’m so relieved to know she's mostly ok. Street safety just became more personal. Let's get meaningful bills like Sammy’s Law done this year. No one should have to walk our streets in fear.

On Thursday night, I was hit by a car in a crosswalk while walking along 35th Ave in Jackson Heights. I was badly bruised and broke my arm. Others are not as fortunate and never make it back home. Too many families never see their loved ones again.

@AightSoBoomPod_ @tiffany_caban Public safety is public health. That’s why the CDC needs to track, study and report on deaths by gunshots, the majority of which are suicides. And as a society we need to do something.

@votejgr @NYC_SafeStreets You have been a fierce advocate for street safety, but now you will be going into overdrive … or is that a poor choice of words (lol). Seriously, I hope your healing is swift and as comfortable as possible.

@pwbnyc I like the "rebuttable presumption" that the owner was the driver. Burden should be on the owner to prove someone else was driving.

This driver's license should be suspended. And there should be a rebutable presumption that vehicles receiving camera violations were being driven by their registered owner. If it wasn't you, then provide DMV with the real driver's identity - and stop letting them use your car!
Streetsblog New York City@StreetsblogNYC

On April 26, 2022, we posted a story about a City Councilmember with a record of driving so bad that [they] were subject to a DOT safe-driving course. The Council member said, "I absolutely pledge to do better." Since then, the lawmaker's car has 21 speeding & 1 red-light ticket:
