We would only need 84-86 SMRs to provide all the UK’s power. Why are we pratting around with solar and wind?

I think the encouraging thing is that despite the power of the fossil fuel lobby, people are responding to the oil volatility by buying more EVs, heat pumps and solar… and are not as stupid as the fossil fuel lobby think!!

My pleasure to welcome @Keir_Starmer @AndyBurnhamGM and @bphillipsonMP to Holy Trinity primary school in Ashton this morning. 33 new free breakfast clubs will open across Greater Manchester this week, giving 10,000 more children a free, healthy start to the school day. That’s Labour on your side. 🌹

The brutal, senseless murders of Bebe, Elsie and Alice marked one of the darkest moments in our country’s history. The report today is truly harrowing and profoundly disturbing. It sets out systematic failures that led to this terrible event. I’ve been overwhelmed by the bravery and determination of their families and while nothing will ever bring these three little girls back, I’m determined to make the fundamental changes needed to keep the public safe. I will do everything I can to honour the memory of Bebe, Elsie, and Alice.

When the fuel crisis began, they told us they charge in reflection to what it will cost them to replace what they are selling us. Now the price of crude oil is down 15% but the prices at the pumps are still increasing. They are profiteering without shame.

LATEST: A man has been arrested in connection with reports that someone had been in the process of cutting down a decades-old tree in Southend’s Priory Park. The man was reportedly seen by other park users hacking away at the “much-loved wisteria”. Essex Police have confirmed that they received a call at around 4.35pm on Monday 6 April about the suspect in Priory Park, after they had allegedly been seen attempting to cut down trees with “a small axe”. Your Southend has seen video footage of the incident which corroborates the report. Police officers arrived at the park and arrested a 46 year-old man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. The man remained in in police custody today for questioning. Essex Police have not confirmed if they are treating the incident as being linked to any other incident, including the recent significant vandalism to multiple trees in Southend Cemetery. Lydia Hyde, Southend councillor for climate, environment and waste, said: “Sadly, I can now reveal that they did succeed in causing damage - including sawing through a much-loved wisteria in the Walled Garden at Priory Park. “This spectacular display is a favourite for so many residents and visitors each year, and it will be sorely missed. While we will do everything we can to replace it, it takes decades for a wisteria to establish and reach the beauty of what has been lost. “Thank you again to Essex Police and our Parks team for their swift response, and for treating this incident with the seriousness it deserves.” If you have any information or video footage in relation to the incident, you are urged to contact Essex Police. You should quote the crime reference number 42/52325/26 when submitting information. You can submit information to the police via a report on their website or by using their online Live Chat service which is available 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. If you would like to make an anonymous report you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers, by visiting their website or by calling 0800 555 111.
