@ForMYCanada @PierrePoilievre France doesn't operate grocery stores, they are privately owned, highly regulated. What Toronto is doing is nothing like that, publicly owned run by the city.

Works just fine in France.
And that’s the point of a pilot: test it, adjust it, and fine-tune it before expanding. If the pilot in Toronto works, Canadians get another option and more competition.
Unless you want to keep letting grocery conglomerats to make 900mil record profits snd you keep screaming "everything is so expensive?"

@ForMYCanada @PierrePoilievre You realize major grocery chains profit is anywhere from 2% to 4%, with that low of margins it will get eaten up by bureaucracy and the groceries will end up being more expensive.

@DunkThe7th @PierrePoilievre The same supply chain every other grocery store uses. The difference is a public option wouldn’t exist to maximize profits for companies like Loblaw Companies Limited or Empire Company Limited. It would exist to keep prices reasonable.

And it sounds like new NDP leader Avi Lewis has some ideas worth exploring, like public grocery stores to bring prices down instead of letting profits keep flowing to grocery conglomerates.
