So the Pope met with David Axelrod last week. David Axelrod. Obama's campaign architect. A man who is not Catholic, has never met a pope before, and whose entire career has been engineering political narratives for the American left. And then, by pure coincidence, the Pope immediately started lobbing shots at the Trump administration, and three US Cardinals popped up on 60 Minutes doing the same thing. All organically, I'm sure. I'm a practicing Catholic. I need you to understand that part. But in my opinion, Trump has all the right to lash out at him. Maybe you'll disagree, but in the end, Trump talks like Trump. Water is wet. I'm talking about MY Church being run like a DNC satellite office but with a golden throne. This is the same Vatican that watched governments padlock churches during COVID and said nothing. That let Biden take communion while funding abortion and said nothing. That fired Bishop Strickland for defending actual Church doctrine. That removed Bishop Fernández in Puerto Rico for defending religious exemptions THE CATECHISM ITSELF supports. But somehow Trump is the threat to human dignity. Pope Francis was bad. Leo has turned out to be worse. Francis at least was vague about his politics. Leo went and hired the consulting firm. The man has ignored the slaughter of Christians across Nigeria, the Sahel, India, Syria, Bangladesh, Pakistan. Hundreds of believers murdered, churches burned, pastors kidnapped. His response? Platitudes about dialogue. OF COURSE he won't even name who's doing the killing. But he'll fly across continents to make interfaith gestures the week after his people coordinated a media hit on a sitting US president. The weaponization of belief is obvious. You get the Pope to pick a fight with Trump, and suddenly millions of conservative Catholics have to choose between their faith and their vote.

I find myself not angry - no, anger is far too crude a companion for what I feel, but profoundly disheartened. The kind of disillusionment that settles quietly in the bones, like winter that never quite leaves. There was a time when certain things were untouchable. Sacred, even to those who did not believe. A time when reverence wasn’t negotiated, and dignity wasn’t subjected to the vulgar theater of politics. But now, now we watch, almost numbly, as the President of a nation once draped in the language of divine purpose, descends deliberately, unapologetically into the desecration of what millions hold holy. And what’s more tragic? Not the act itself. No, history is littered with powerful men behaving badly. What is truly unsettling is the applause. The defense. The eager chorus of those who should know better, twisting themselves into moral pretzels to justify what, in quieter times, would have been unthinkable. You see, when reverence dies, it doesn’t die loudly. It erodes, slowly, politely, disguised as opinion, cloaked in ideology. Until one day, you wake up and realize that even the Vicar of Christ, the spiritual shepherd to over a billion souls has become just another target in the carnival of ridicule. Our Pope @Pontifex is not equals with the President of the USA, and they will never be. “Woke,” they say. “Senseless.” “A puppet of this or that.” How pedestrian. How painfully small. Because whether you kneel in pews or scoff from a distance, there are symbols in this world that demand a certain restraint. Not out of fear, but out of an understanding that once you reduce everything to mockery, you are left with nothing worth respecting. And that, I’m afraid, is where we are. A society so desperate to win arguments that it has forgotten how to preserve sanctity. So intoxicated with noise that it no longer recognizes silence as wisdom. I would hope, perhaps foolishly, that those entrusted with spiritual authority might summon the courage to speak. Not in whispers. Not in carefully crafted evasions. But with the kind of clarity that reminds the world that some lines once crossed are not so easily redrawn. Because here’s the inconvenient truth: What you tolerate, you teach. What you excuse, you invite. And what you repeatedly mock eventually loses all meaning. And when that happens, when nothing is sacred, you don’t just lose your faith. You lose your soul. President Trump is losing the faithfuls, he is, and whether he is doing this intentionally to hurt JD Vance will be a subject for another day. He must apologize to the Pope.

All those asking, “Why hasn’t the Pope visited Nigeria instead of Algeria?” know deep down that they don’t truly care about Christians in Nigeria. This isn’t a concern. It's just another excuse to criticize the Holy Father. Those of us who actually live here in Nigeria know the truth: Pope Leo XIV has consistently called for an end to the bloodshed we endure, more than many of the loud, popular megachurch pastors in this country. Shame on those who speak so carelessly against him. Truly, it’s embarrassing. I will be praying for your conversion. And honestly, since when did you suddenly start caring about Nigerian Christians? As a Catholic, I trust Pope LeoXIV, and I support fully his call for peace. The people who are obviously upset that Pope LeoXIV is calling for peace instead of more bloodshed are people who are profiting from this. O pedido do relator da CPI do Crime Organizado, voltado ao indiciamento de Ministros do STF sem base legal, nos leva a uma reflexão sobre o papel e os poderes das CPIs. Tanto pior quando o pedido flerta com arbitrariedades, como a criminalização de decisões que concedem habeas corpus diante de abuso de poder. É elementar, até mesmo para um estudante de Direito, que o indiciamento constitui ato privativo de delegado de polícia e não se aplica a crimes de responsabilidade, que seguem procedimento próprio previsto na Lei 1.079/1950. Essa lei, ao definir as competências e o rito do impeachment, atribui o processamento e o julgamento do pedido a órgãos específicos — como a Mesa do Senado, a Comissão Especial e o Plenário da Casa — sem sequer prever a atuação de CPIs nesse procedimento. Igualmente grave é a tentativa de criminalizar a concessão de habeas corpus — expediente conhecido como “crime de hermenêutica”, que já em 1896 Rui Barbosa denunciava como tentativa tacanha de substituir a consciência de juízes independentes pelo arbítrio de governos prepotentes. Também chama atenção o fato de que, conforme apontado por jornalistas independentes, uma CPI instaurada após o massacre de 120 pessoas nos Complexos do Alemão e da Penha no ano passado, não tenha promovido sequer a quebra de sigilos de milicianos ou integrantes das facções que controlam territórios no Rio de Janeiro. Por isso, é no mínimo perturbador que o relator, enquanto integrante de carreira policial, tenha fechado olhos para seus colegas que, traindo a boa imagem da instituição, cruzaram para o lado sombrio das milícias. O relatório revela verdadeira cortina de fumaça, ao deixar de enfrentar o grave problema a que se propôs e ao dedicar-se a engrossar a espuma midiática contra o STF, na expectativa de produzir dividendos eleitorais para certos atores políticos. As CPIs são instrumentos legítimos e essenciais ao controle do exercício do poder. Seu emprego para fins panfletários ou de constrangimento institucional, contudo, compromete sua credibilidade e reforça a necessidade de modernização da legislação sobre crimes de responsabilidade — tema que já se encontra em debate no Congresso. Excessos desse quilate podem caracterizar abuso de autoridade e devem ser rigorosamente apurados pela Procuradoria-Geral da República.
