The “Save the Kurds Act” aims to impose measures on parties responsible for targeting Kurds and to link U.S. policy in the region. Reports continue to circulate of vehicles entering Kurdish neighborhoods, raising Syrian flags, chanting anti-Kurdish slogans, attacking Kurdish youth, and subsequent gunfire with little intervention from public security. Most recently, the Kurdish city of Kobani was besieged from four sides. Kobani was the first city where ISIS was crushed by Kurdish fighters, but now under al-Jolani, Kobani faced an attack from three axes: military movements by the al-Jolani-led government, Turkish-backed mercenaries, and Arab tribes linked to ISIS. A renewed effort must be made to revive the “Save the Kurds Act” in the U.S. Congress. As of March 26, 2026, the bill has not advanced beyond committee referral." 🔻SAVE THE KURDS ACT "U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) spearheaded the introduction of the Save the Kurds Act in January 2026. This bipartisan legislation was introduced to impose sanctions on the Syrian government in response to attacks on the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in January by Syrian president Abu al-Jolani’s forces and other groups he enabled. The more the U.S. normalized relations with al-Jolani, the more comfortable he grew. From the removal of sanctions in May 2025 to a White House meeting with President Trump in September 2025, al-Jolani continued to show his true colors by attacking Kurds and Druze, yet the U.S. ignored these signs until they became too obvious to ignore in January 2026. At this point, U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) spearheaded the introduction of the Save the Kurds Act, but ultimately a ceasefire and integration deal was signed between General Mazloum Abdi (SDF) and Abu al-Jolani on January 29th 2026, leading to less interest in the Save the Kurds Act. Now, only half a month later, similar signs have emerged that the al-Jolani government of Syria has little interest in protecting Kurdish interests. t is important that we keep our eyes on the Kurdish people of Syria, because based on the past, a lot can happen under our noses under the guise of a ceasefire agreement signed with a terrorist."
