I met with a career coach for the first time and generally liked her, but when discussing where I should aim next she suggested I consider a career in HR. Is it just me, or is that some really biased guidance? Would a man in a technical role be told to consider HR?

@ElisOl Yes, that is crap. Get a new career coach. I’m not one, but I’m generally pretty good at helping people think through their careers. Since @jhutchings0 says you’re fantastic - and I listen to whatever he says! ;) - I’d be happy to chat if you’d like.

@ericabrescia At that point all I'd told her is that I like solving problems and growing people as a manager, and since I feel really satisfied with what I have now that I wanted to start thinking about what to plan for in 5-10 years. It really felt out of left field.

@ElisOl What was her rationale? Certainly doesn’t sound right but missing a lot of context.

Donating to one or more of these groups seems like a really great tradition to add to your Thanksgiving activities.

@varundikar Nope. I like people a lot, but only having people-based problems to solve sounds absolutely frustrating. I have no reason to want to get out of a technical role.

@ElisOl You can be successful at anything you decide. Do you feel like being in HR?

@zorbadgreek Because I like solving problems and managing people, and want to grow in my career. With that criteria it seems like several other options should have been top of mind first.

@sarahhandler NGL, in my top 5 list for why I like working remotely is being able to wear soft pants all the time.

The problem with finally finishing a home improvement project is the frustrating realization that if you'd just dedicated three hours to the problem at any time in the past year and a half you could have already solved it.

With possibly hours left before Twitter disappears this might be my last chance to migrate to Mastodon. I'm now also @elisol" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">infosec.exchange/@elisol (or am I supposed to write it @elisol@infosec.exchange ?) I hope to find y'all again over there.

Today marks exactly 6 months since I joined @benchling! It was a big transition coming to this company, but my coworkers are awesome and I love knowing that I'm helping scientists be a little bit faster when they do important things like try to cure cancer.

@aiddya To clarify: we do decorate it ourselves, and add even more lights because we're extra like that.

@aiddya We ordered ours online at Costco, it's pre-lit but not decorated and has fooled multiple people into thinking it's a real tree.
