Looks like things are in full swing with RAF Barnham. The usual suspects pretending to be security guards 👀👀

Blimey… this went everywhere! 😅🤦🏻‍♂️ Again, I’ll never regret pushing back against the rape and abuse of women and children… even if I did momentarily lose my cool on air. The word wasn’t a particularly bad one, it wasn’t grossly offensive and it was after watershed.

The Government is reportedly considering requiring some people who receive asylum accommodation to repay the cost of that accommodation if they are later able to do so. Some headlines have suggested figures of up to £10,000. I’m very sceptical that this will make any real difference. If repayment only happens when someone earns above a certain level, what incentive is there to work and declare that income? My concern is that it could simply encourage people to avoid formal employment, reducing tax revenue while making enforcement even harder. If the aim is to reduce the cost to taxpayers, then any policy needs to be practical, enforceable and actually recover the money. Otherwise, it risks becoming little more than a headline rather than a genuine solution. I’d be interested to hear what others think. Do you believe this proposal would actually work?

A huge shout out to the team at Chelmsford Recycling Centre for the fantastic service they provide to our local community. I’ve used the booking system many times over the last few years, and it works brilliantly. You never seem to have to wait long because visitor numbers are managed so well. One thing I only recently discovered is their paint reuse scheme. Instead of throwing away perfectly good, unopened tins of paint, you can donate them so someone else can make use of them. Today I dropped off a full, unopened tin of pink paint that would otherwise have ended up as waste. It’s a brilliant idea. Not only does it reduce waste and help the environment, but it also gives people the opportunity to pick up paint for decorating without having to spend a fortune. It’s a simple initiative that could make a real difference to someone. Credit where it’s due – this is a great service provided through Essex County Council, and I think the team deserve recognition for the work they’re doing. Well done to everyone involved!

@Garybenham1964 We tried but because we’re associated with doing demos we cannot set up a non profit company. We got so much abuse for trying to set up a patrol type group

This Friday at 6:30pm, we’ll be gathering peacefully on Springfield Road, opposite the Two Brewers. We know that some of you may feel nervous about attending. We completely understand that. Many people who came along to our previous peaceful march felt exactly the same before they arrived. But once there, they found themselves surrounded by ordinary local residents who simply wanted to stand together and make their voices heard. If Friday is well supported, we’d like to explore making these peaceful gatherings a regular event. Whether that’s once a month or even every other Friday will depend entirely on the support from local people. We know that Friday evenings are often when there is increased activity around the shuttle buses. By having a peaceful presence in the area, it may encourage changes to how collections are managed, or it may simply mean that collections continue as normal. Either way, it allows local residents to peacefully observe and demonstrate their concerns in a lawful and visible way. If you’ve been thinking about coming but haven’t yet had the confidence, this could be the perfect opportunity. Bring a friend, come for as little or as long as you like, and stand alongside others who care about our local community. 📍 Springfield Road (opposite the Two Brewers) 🕡 Friday – 6:30pm As always, this is a peaceful gathering. Please be respectful, follow any instructions from the police if they’re present, and help us show that communities can express their views calmly and lawfully. We hope to see you there.

TIP OFF - Wethersfield Migrant Centre. We’ve received a tip-off that LSS Security may now be providing security services at the Wethersfield asylum site. According to the information we’ve been given, there are allegedly around 36 security staff on duty during the day, with fewer on night shifts. We have not yet independently verified these figures. What raises further questions is the allegation that some security staff are not displaying SIA licences or badges while carrying out security duties. We’ve previously reported this to SIA and will be reporting the new allegations to them. If they are undertaking licensable security work, they would generally be expected to hold the appropriate SIA licence. If anyone has evidence either confirming or disproving this, we’d like to hear from you. Over the past several months, we’ve published footage showing what appears to be security staff socialising with residents, including videos from Christmas Day and other occasions where staff appear to be filming and laughing during incidents. We’ve also received reports alleging there have been numerous fights and police call-outs at the site. If these reports are accurate, we hope the relevant authorities are investigating them thoroughly. We’ve also been told that some security staff are international students mainly Pakistani Students working in these roles. We have not verified this information, but if true, it raises questions about recruitment, right-to-work compliance and contract management. We do not yet know whether LSS Security is contracted directly by the Home Office or through Clearsprings Ready Homes, and we will continue investigating. Given previous concerns that have been raised publicly about asylum accommodation contracts, we believe there should be transparency about who is providing security, how contracts are awarded and whether all legal requirements are being met. If you work at the site or have evidence that can help verify any of this information, please contact us confidentially. We will continue asking questions and seeking evidence in the public interest. What’s more concerning is the overdue ID verification on the two directors.

@EmStandUpCM1 I live 15 minutes from another proposed site - Linton on Ouse, and I thought something similar. Where are they going to bus migrants from here? York or the small town of Easingwold?

I really feel for the people of Barnham and the surrounding towns and villages following the announcement that RAF Barnham will be used to accommodate illegal migrants. Based on what I’ve seen elsewhere, my expectation is that residents at the site will need transport into nearby towns and cities. At RAF Wethersfield, buses operate to places such as Chelmsford, Braintree and Colchester, and Crowborough similar transport arrangements are planned for nearby towns. We also understand that Foster Hartley currently provides transport services linked to RAF Wethersfield and Crowborough . Whether they will be awarded any future transport contract for RAF Barnham has not been confirmed, but if they were, we would expect buses to serve nearby locations such as Thetford, Bury St Edmunds and other surrounding areas. We know many local residents will have questions about what this means for their communities, local services and transport. We hope the Government provides clear information and engages openly with those affected before any arrangements begin.

The biggest winners from the UK’s asylum accommodation system don’t appear to be the taxpayer. Private contractors are making enormous sums from Home Office contracts, and with more asylum accommodation now planned for MOD sites, many people expect those contracts to become even more valuable. In my view, any company receiving public money to provide asylum accommodation should operate on a not-for-profit basis. Public funds should be used to provide the service itself, not to generate huge profits or executive pay packets worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. If companies are being paid by taxpayers to house and transport asylum seekers, every contract should be transparent, independently audited and deliver clear value for money. Reports have highlighted the wealth accumulated by Clearsprings founder Graham King, who has also been reported as spending time living in Monaco. (The Times) That is likely to leave many taxpayers questioning whether the current system is working in the public interest. Looking ahead, communities near sites such as RAF Barnham are understandably asking what this means for their towns. If large accommodation sites open, local people will want clear answers about transport, healthcare, policing, local services and who is paying the bill. Whatever your views on immigration, there should be agreement on one principle: taxpayer-funded contracts should put the public interest first, not private profit. Hopefully, whichever government is elected next will carry out a full review of these contracts and ensure they provide genuine value for money and proper accountability.

@EmStandUpCM1 @ukhomeoffice are not fit for purpose, they don’t bother keeping numbers even from the the EU, they have much higher rate of approval of asylum applications than much of Europe, they have a low returns rate, refugees m go missing and failed applicants stay anyway

The Government says that, in future, people who have entered the UK illegally and are being accommodated by the Home Office will increasingly be housed on MOD sites rather than in hotels. For many people, however, the debate isn’t simply about where people are housed. It’s about the wider system that has been created around these sites. Residents see accommodation, meals, transport, healthcare access, welfare support and organised activities, while many local people are struggling with the rising cost of living and waiting for NHS appointments. Whether you agree or disagree, it’s understandable why this creates frustration and resentment. A question that deserves a serious discussion is integration. If people are going to be living in the UK while their cases are being processed, why isn’t there a greater emphasis on learning English where needed, developing practical life skills, contributing to the day-to-day running of accommodation, volunteering where appropriate, and preparing for employment if they are ultimately granted permission to remain? Many rehabilitation programmes encourage people leaving prison to rebuild independence by developing routine, responsibility and work skills. Shouldn’t we also be asking whether accommodation centres could do more to encourage responsibility and integration, rather than creating long-term dependence on publicly funded support? These are legitimate questions about public policy and how taxpayers’ money is spent. They shouldn’t be dismissed. The public deserve honest answers about the costs, the long-term plan, and how integration will work if people are going to remain in our communities. Respectful debate on these issues is essential, because they’re about fairness, public services, and confidence in the immigration system.
