@DrPetra @AcademicChatter Students come in with an idea of what research *looks* like, and that preconception leads to judgements of what counts and what doesn’t, especially regarding different fields and different methods. We should start by talking to them about what the activity of research *is*.

@ThomasJBillard Yep. Full marks. Which feels much less arbitrary to me then assigning numbers to assess writing assignments. Maybe it would be different if I assigned exams.

@EmilySaidel Interesting! I cynically feel like my students would freak out not knowing what their score was, or what “complete” meant. Does complete just translate to full marks?

Short of overthrowing the US public education system and waiting 18 years for students of that new system to finally arrive in my classroom, what can I do to break my students' fanatical obsession with "losing points" on assignments. You got a 93! Chill!

@ThomasJBillard This semester I’m trying complete or incomplete-with-opportunity-to-revise on everything. Ran into a few unanticipated situations that I’ll shift to account for next semester, but overall loving avoiding numerical/letter on individual assignments
