We are proud to share that the United Disabled Persons of Kenya (UDPK) and @EnableMeKenya have both been recognized at the 8th Edition of the National Diversity and Inclusion Awards and Recognition (DIAR), held on 27th March. UDPK was honoured among the Top 100 Organizations under the Taifa Vanguard category, while EnableMe Kenya also received recognition for its impactful work in advancing inclusion. In addition, our Board Chair, Mr. @eric_ngondi , was awarded under the DIAR Board Leadership Taifa Patrons category, a testament to his outstanding leadership and commitment to inclusion. We deeply appreciate this recognition. It reflects the dedication of our team, the strength of our partnerships, and the trust of the communities we serve. This achievement belongs to all of us, our staff, stakeholders, partners, and persons with disabilities we work alongside every day. Together, we continue to advocate for and promote the rights, dignity, and full participation of persons with disabilities in all areas of life. #DIARAwards #Inclusion

“We don’t want the presence of women. We want them to hold power and influence systems.” Last week, we joined a stakeholder roundtable consultation forum on “Advancing Women’s Leadership and Participation in Public Life,” organized by Journalists for Human Rights (@JHRKenya ). Women are often present but not influential. They occupy positions but lack the authority, resources, or institutional backing to shape outcomes. From nominated leaders without voting rights to women sidelined during party nominations, the system often creates the illusion of inclusion while maintaining existing power structures and systems. When we examine this through a disability lens, the gap widens even further. Women with disabilities are rarely present in leadership spaces to begin with and when they are, they face layered barriers that limit participation, visibility, and decision-making power. Think about it, has Kenya ever had a woman Cabinet Secretary with a disability? This is where the media comes in. The media has the power to shape public perception, influence political agendas, and redefine who is seen as a leader. Yet too often, women with disabilities are either invisible in mainstream coverage or only featured when disability itself is the story. What if the media intentionally did things differently? What if women with disabilities were consistently profiled as experts, policymakers, and leaders and not just beneficiaries? What if political coverage questioned the absence of diverse representation in leadership spaces? What if journalists followed the journey of women leaders with disabilities and not just their struggles, but their influence and impact? #WomenLeadership #WomenRepresentation #Intersectionality

We need to move away from a medical model of disability where the person is seen as "broken" and one to be "fixed" & move towards the #SocialModel where disability is simply a part of human existence and barriers in the environment are the problem. #rights

You are not a project to be fixed. Disability is shaped by environments, not the individual. If a bird can’t fly because its wings are clipped, we don't blame the bird; we look at the cage. url-shortener.me/9P9R #identity Video shows a bird caged by barriers. @UDPKenya

Picture a kitchen where the cooker sends a spoken alert when dinner is ready. A washing machine you operate through simple voice commands. A fridge that describes what’s inside so you reach exactly what you need. Smart appliances..enableme.ke/en/article/sma…

"For today's test, everyone must climb that tree." The famous "fish climbing a tree" analogy cuts deep, are we truly educating students, or just testing how well they fit into a rigid mold? Fairness is testing the fish in swimming & the monkey in climbing. enableme.ke/en/article/can…

Happy International Deaf Awareness Month! Happy International Deaf Awareness Week! Meaningful collaborations are key to advancing sign language in Kenya! Organizations, government bodies, and the Deaf community must meaningfully collaborate to sign language more accessible. Initiatives like developing a sign language curriculum for health professionals, creating accessible digital textbooks, and ensuring public services have Sign Language interpreters are vital steps. These partnerships ensure Deaf voices are heard and their rights are upheld. #InternationalDeafAwarenessMonth #InternationalDeafAwarenessWeek #deafawarenessweek2025 #InternationalDayofSignLanguages #DeafRights @EnableMeKenya
