"In some areas, First Past the Post could mean MPs getting elected on as little as 25% or 30% of the vote. That is not sustainable for British politics, and it is time for Proportional Representation." 💯💯💯 @RichardFoordLD midweekherald.co.uk/news/25962256.…

In a sign of unity, all 5 NDP leadership candidates are standing together to speak out in support of electoral reform. A nod to a proportional representation voting system from Tony McQuail, Tanille Johnston, Heather McPherson, Avi Lewis and Rob Ashton.

I’ll say this: the fact that all NDP leadership candidates spoke together in favour of a resolution on proportional representation, has improved my view of the party. While I still lean toward supporting the Greens in the next federal election, this has made me more open to backing the NDP. That said, I’d like to see both the NDP and the Greens go further in advancing proportional representation at the federal level, by introducing motions or legislation, pressing the government with questions, and taking more concrete action on the issue. Furthermore, I would support a campaign deal between the NDP & GPC at the next federal election with the goal of securing the balance of power and use it to get the next government to implement a PR system

The five #NDP candidates unite to speak in favour of a policy resolution calling for a mixed member PR system with design recommendations via a citizenship assembly, and implemented without a need for a referendum. (It passed.)

We need electoral reform. When the current system distorts results, it shuts people out. It reduces accountability, discourages working together to help Canadians, and rewards division. Proportional representation would fix all that.

This week our Deputy Director, Lena Swedlow, sat down with @LauraBeveridge7 at @PoliticsJOE_UK to discuss how Britain's electoral system is broken and why we need proportional representation immediately. Watch it in the link below!

"Britain’s voting system encourages the belief that complex social conflicts can be settled not by compromise, but by conquest." Completely right. It's never been more clear that no one party can speak for the whole country. That's why we need PR 👇 theglobalist.com/rethinking-bri…

Happy International Women's Day! ✊💃 Studies show that countries with proportional voting systems tend to have more women's representation in parliament. We spoke to three campaigners, representing three generations of women, about why they support PR: makevotesmatter.org.uk/news/2026/3/6/…

💥 Professor Vernon Bogdanor writes for @FinancialTimes: "An electoral system should do two things: ensure that the majority rules and that significant minorities are adequately represented. First Past the Post achieves neither." 👏👏👏 ft.com/content/38d83f…

Great to see @avilewis calling for electoral reform and a Citizens Assembly. Thanks for putting this on the agenda! The goal should be a voting system where organizing and turnout actually translate into representation. Proportional representation makes every vote count.

Great analysis from @NickTroiano & @uniteamerica. Thanks to gerrymandering, 92% of 2026 House races are decided long before November, according to @CookPolitical. Multi-member districts & proportional representation would end gerrymandering for good. #ProportionalRepresentation
Unite America@uniteamerica

Unite America Institute, which tracks what it refers to as the "primary problem" and advocates for election reforms, calculated that in 2024, just 7% voters elected 87% of U.S. House races. @NickTroiano, executive director of Unite America, said the mid-decade redistricting prompted by Trump last year has further reduced the number of competitive seats. His organization says 32 states currently don't have a single competitive congressional race. "The primary problem is bad and getting worse," he told @NPR. "We are about to enter a midterm election season that will be the least competitive of our lifetimes, which means that we will have, no matter who wins in November, the least accountable Congress of our lifetime." 🧨“The Government’s refusal to look at Proportional Representation is dangerously short-sighted.” @BrendanOHaraMP eloquently warns of the possibility that Reform may win majority power in 2029 on barely 30% of the vote if #FirstPastThePost stays. #ElectoralReform #Democracy
