@orchid5518 Thank you! No, I won't be in Iceland as fun as that would be. Have a great time!

@EricTheSpaceCat It was a one nighter on 20230313, for us in the West due to inclement weather it sure was beautiful with the crescent Moon

@theauroraguy @randymilanovic Nice! I vaguely recall chasing a iridium flare with an ISS pass at the same time. Having not seen the image in years I'm not sure what I did with it if I was successful.

@randymilanovic @EricTheSpaceCat I had it down to a science, this is a double Iridium from 17, and 31

From the archives this day March 15, 2017, West of Calgary
This image is an Iridium satellite flare, specifically Iridium 61. The Iridium constellation were among the first communication satellites for use with "cell phones". I owned one and it cost me 3400.00 CAD, and when I used it there was a charge of 3.5 - 11.00 per minute depending on where I was. I used the phone when I was commissioning control systems in remote locations, my most expensive call was a little over 500.00, but it sure saved my ass.
The satellites had an Iridium solar panels to keep the satellites powered that caused these amazing sat flares, you could find out where and when they flared through the Heavens Above website.

@randymilanovic @theauroraguy Not in the way they used to. The old iridium satellites had large reflective antennas. I believe those have all been decommissioned/de-orbited.
