@pedro___ @IndyCarOnFOX The main purpose of the fence is to simply hold the cables in position. The cables give some, just as the NASCAR safer barrier system gives, to slow the impact.

A HUGE moment for Scott McLaughlin as he goes through the fence in Barber practice. He's okay.

@IndyCarOnFOX The track did its job. Gravel, then soft barriers, then armco then the fence, and what's important about the fence is the cables embedded in it.

@pedro___ @IndyCarOnFOX Ignorant comment. You should read up on how these fences are constructed. The track did its job. Gravel, then soft barriers, then armco then the fence, and what's important about the fence is the cables imbedded in it.

@IndyCarOnFOX Nice vinyl fence you got there, I'm sure you got a deal from your uncle's construction business. Maybe next time invest in a real circuit fence designed to stop race cars, no? Thanks.

@maximal_frei That’s my impression, too, that Munich is starting to decay. Visited both Munich and Vienna last year and Vienna is far out shining Munich now.

If you drive around Mississippi you’ll find 3,000 square foot homes, towns where everyone owns a boat, middle-class families with RVs, high schools with football fields, and a very costly things average people own. They just can’t convert that prosperity to health and wellbeing.

@number_pizza111 Lots of great places in MS and lots of poor places. Oxford and Tupelo are great, for instance. The MS gulf coast is wonderful - Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Bay St. Louis. The food is wonderful, but not all of it is healthy. If you haven’t traveled throughout MS, you shouldn’t comment.

My friend Wolfgang was turning 40 last weekend To celebrate, we took a tram to the city for lunch Few stops before Centrum, a ticket inspector gets on He checks my friend's ticket and frowns "Sir, you used the 51% student discount, but this is for students only" "That is correct. I'm in the 9th year of my PhD studies" Inspector nodded respectfully and handed the student ID back That's the thing Americans will never understand Wolfgang will soon enter the workforce with more knowledge than any American could ever dream of This is precisely why Europe will always be ahead of the US

@acopo1024 @guypbenson Over half of US gunshot deaths are suicides. They do choose it. Gun control advocates lump together gun homicides and gun suicides because it makes the "gun deaths" number bigger.

@guypbenson Bit of an apples to oranges comparison here isn't it? You're framing Canadians dying from MAID as something that randomly happens to them. They choose it. Americans do not choose gunshot deaths. Just a weird two things to compare.

Probably lot of stolen German IP there. The German innovation genius - which has invented everything from the printing press to diesel engines to aspirin -has been stifled by regulation and bureaucracy. They were leaders in industrial robotics but sold out to China
Michaela Kuefner@MKuefner

China shows off its AI robotics edge. German Chancellor Merz gets a taste of how the roles between China and Germany reverse. Engineers partly uncomfortable with us filming. An attempt to shut us in a waiting room during the Chancellor’s visit failed. German press too unruly.

@lucyhargreaves4 I bet we can get our unemployment rate down if we changed methodology as well. Alabama's participation rate is 57.7%. Canada's was 65.3% last year (statcan table 14-10-0327-02) So Canada is actually has a greater percentage of people actively in the economy and working.

Alabama's unemployment rate is 2.7%. Canada's is 6.5%. Alabama now manufactures nearly as many cars as Ontario. How did the one of the poorest states in the US start outcompeting us? The Globe went down there to find out. The short version: Alabama spent 30 years treating economic development like a serious strategy... landing investments, making it fast and easy to build, and clawing back incentives from companies that didn't deliver. Canada spent the same 30 years writing reports about competitiveness and then not acting on them. Eli Lilly just put a $6B pharma plant in Huntsville. That could have been Montreal. Alabama is no paradise. Life expectancy is 74 vs 82 in Canada, minimum wage is $7.25. But there's a line in the piece that stuck with me. In 2007, the Harper government commissioned a competitiveness report. The conclusion as to why it's difficult to take the actions needed to be more competitive: "Canadians do not perceive that there is an imminent crisis." The authors said you'd get the same answer today. I think they're probably mostly right. And as the Globe puts it: "If Canadians remain complacent, the rest of the world will eat our lunch." We're in a crisis, folks. An imminent one at that. Time to get seriously aggressive about the changes we need to make.

Out of nowhere, Canada became poorer than Alabama. How is that possible? theglobeandmail.com/business/artic…

@voteLabonte @lucyhargreaves4 The unemployment rate and the labor force participation rate are two different things. If someone has not been actively looking for a job in the last month, they are not counted as “unemployed” because they are not part of the labor force.

I have always admired the resourcefulness of slum dwellers who build makeshift but sturdy homes out of random scraps of lumber, metal, and astroturf. Oops, my bad: This is an apartment house in Munich and a finalist for the 2026 German Architecture Museum Prize.
