Time for another bit of advice that George Washington recorded in his notebook on civility. #3 "Show nothing (grotesque) to your friend that may affright him." (from Rules of Civility, pg 28. Richard Brookhiser) Referring to the crude, rude and gory, this is a good maxim to remind us that the sensibilities of others should be considered AND glorying in these things only coarsens a culture (degrading civilization).

Campaign season is upon us. Civility may suffer. Richard Brookhiser edited the "Rules of Civilty" (The Free Press 1997) that George Washington had copied into his notebook. Here are some worth reviving. "Every action done in company ought to be done with some sign of respect to those that are present."
National Term Limits Day is February 27. One misconception many have about calling a Convention of the States is that it will be a runaway for changes to our Constitution. Not so. It is only for crafting PROPOSED amendments that the state legislatures would scrutinize and then vote to approve or reject. This is a tool our founders gave us to control our government. Time to use it.
