🚨 do you understand what Karpathy just said.. the guy who co-founded OpenAI.. led AI at Tesla.. one of the best engineers alive.. built an app with AI.. and said the code was the easy part.. the hard part was Stripe.. auth.. DNS.. databases.. deploying it.. connecting 15 different services that all have different dashboards and different docs and different billing pages.. AI can write your entire app in 20 minutes.. but it still can't click "confirm email" on Vercel.. so the thing that's "replacing developers" can't do the thing developers actually spend 80% of their time doing.. vibe coding didn't kill software engineering.. it just proved that coding was never the job.. the job was dealing with the mess around the code.. and that mess is still 100% human.
Andrej Karpathy@karpathy

When I built menugen ~1 year ago, I observed that the hardest part by far was not the code itself, it was the plethora of services you have to assemble like IKEA furniture to make it real, the DevOps: services, payments, auth, database, security, domain names, etc... I am really looking forward to a day where I could simply tell my agent: "build menugen" (referencing the post) and it would just work. The whole thing up to the deployed web page. The agent would have to browse a number of services, read the docs, get all the api keys, make everything work, debug it in dev, and deploy to prod. This is the actually hard part, not the code itself. Or rather, the better way to think about it is that the entire DevOps lifecycle has to become code, in addition to the necessary sensors/actuators of the CLIs/APIs with agent-native ergonomics. And there should be no need to visit web pages, click buttons, or anything like that for the human. It's easy to state, it's now just barely technically possible and expected to work maybe, but it definitely requires from-scratch re-design, work and thought. Very exciting direction!

⚡️Starship is the most important machine on Earth because it is the only serious bridge between a trapped species and a spacefaring one. That is the real truth. Everything else is downstream of lift cost. Moon bases, Mars cities, orbital industry, space solar, off world mining, deep space telescopes, mass drivers, lunar factories, all of it stays trapped in PowerPoint until you can move huge amounts of mass off Earth cheaply, repeatedly, and at industrial cadence. Starship is the attempt to break that lock. If it works, the future stops being metaphor and starts becoming logistics. That is why people respond to it like a symbol. They can feel that it carries more than hardware. Modern civilization has become psychologically small. It worships management, caution, compliance, and local optimization. Starship says scale again. Build again. Risk again. Leave again. In a world trained to think inside ceilings, that feels almost religious. The deeper reason it matters is power. A civilization that stays bound to one planet stays bound to one set of bottlenecks. One gravity well. One biosphere. One grid. One political surface. One set of supply chains. One cluster of elites deciding what is possible. A civilization that can industrialize beyond Earth changes the structure of power itself. More energy. More room. More redundancy. More survival. More strategic depth. More future. That is why Starship is so much bigger than SpaceX. It is the opening bid for off world industry. Once heavy lift becomes cheap and routine, the moon becomes operational. Once the moon becomes operational, infrastructure begins. Once infrastructure begins, throughput replaces spectacle. Then the human story stops being purely terrestrial. The real view is brutal and simple. If Starship succeeds, the ceiling over the species cracks. If Starship fails, humanity remains psychologically and physically trapped longer than people understand. Bottom line: People love Starship because they can feel that it is carrying more than cargo. It is carrying the claim that humanity does not have to accept a smaller destiny.

i genuinely don't understand how anyone hates Elon the night before flight 4, he was vomiting with stomach ulcers from the stress of crashes, with both SpaceX and Tesla on the brink of bankruptcy he launched it anyway, when 99.9999% of people would've quit. that's bravery. and it reached orbit. now, that same company will have the largest IPO in history. absolutely one of the most inspiring stories

To return Americans to the Moon, NASA is shifting to an iterative, execution-focused approach – just as we did during Apollo.  We are standardizing rocket architecture, embedding NASA expertise across industry, and increasing launch cadence to support sustained lunar operations.   We are sending a demand signal for crewed missions beyond Artemis V, with at least two providers capable of bringing astronauts to the surface every 6 months.  The goal is not just to reach the Moon, but to stay.  America will never give up the Moon again.

I just saw the much talked about film “Project Hail Mary.” It's very entertaining and uplifting and features a fine performance from Ryan Gosling. But what most intrigued me were the powerful Christian themes at play in it. The title, of course, refers to the Hail Mary pass in football, since the adventure undertaken is a fairly desperate attempt to save the planet. But it also becomes eminently clear that the reference is not just to football but to the Blessed Mother herself, for the Gosling character is undoubtedly a Christ-figure. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but it involves a willingness to sacrifice one's life utterly in order to deliver the entire human race from disaster. It is, of course, no accident that Gosling's character is called Ryland Grace, for throughout the movie, his presence and actions constitute undeserved favor to others. A particularly intriguing character in the film is a sober German scientist who relentlessly presses Grace to make the supreme sacrifice, even when he is unwilling. She represented for me the great moral demand that presses upon us throughout our lives, continually summoning us to self-gift. A last observation: Jesus had a second in command whom he called Peter (the Rock); Ryland Grace has a very unusual sidekick whom he calls “Rocky.” I'll leave it at that. I know lots of people say that Christianity is in irreversible decline and that we are inhabiting, at least in the West, a post-Christian society. I'm not so sure. Like it or not, we remain a Christ-haunted culture—and a film like “Project Hail Mary” makes this clear.

99.9% of CEO's facing a chip shortage would accept the constraints, do what they can to earn priority, and just focus on incremental profitability increases through efficiencies Elon is choosing to blow up the entire shortage scenario altogether. The relentless attack on the limiting factors at his companies is something that should be admired and studied for decades It requires eating glass to a degree that most of us will never fully comprehend, but we will undoubtedly benefit greatly from in time Even if timelines and numbers are missed, this is how astounding progress is made and things that were once impossible become possible I will forever have immense respect for the man in the arena willing to take the risks when success is far from guaranteed

Gold crashing -22% in such times of geopolitical uncertainty is the literal definition of why market degeneracy has reached even safe havens. It pumped so much on retail hype a few months ago, it is now behaving borderline like a crypto. Some weakness would make sense given the market is pricing in higher rates for longer due to Trump’s new pointless, endless war in the Middle East. But such a large move in just a few weeks is definitely influenced by retail degen behavior. $GLD

Selling gold because rising inflation will keep the Fed from cutting interest rates, when rates are already too low, makes no sense. Falling real rates are bullish for gold. It's the stock market that needs rate cuts. That's why it makes no sense that stocks are down so little.
