My book is already available in digital form. You can read the chapter abstracts here: doi.org/10.1093/978019…. I would like to highlight chapter 7, which offers a new and counterintuitive explanation for the liberalization of the slave trade in 1789.

@theproof He implied that excess calories are to blame for setting the twin cycle in motion, particularly after surpassing one's fat threshold. This seems plausible, but he did not address the role of excess carb intake. Shouldn't we consider alternatives before defending a perspective?

@jjponcevazquez The more insidious problem is, of course, that school funding comes from local property taxes. That is a bad way of funding public schools and unfortunately very common in the US. I'd rather see schools funded from state tax revenue, not property taxes.

Schools are running on a deficit. In two years they will run out of money, and if they don’t get extra funding, they will have to cut lots of programs and services. They don’t care. It’s so fucking sad.

Today Tuscaloosa AL had a referendum to marginally increase real state taxes to improve the funding of schools, which hasn’t increased since the 80s. The final results are not out yet, but it’s not looking good. I am so ashamed of my district, district 3. See graph:

Hello historians! Does anyone have access to David Murray's "The slave trade, slavery and Cuban independence"? doi.org/10.1080/014403… I am not able to access it through my campus. Thanks in advance.

@csschmitt1 @jjponcevazquez @DrDanielleTW @DrJesseCromwell No he visto esos legajos.

I've been at the AGI for almost two weeks. The fact that we can now take unlimited pictures makes a really big difference. I will take home a large amount of documents for my second book project. For graduate students, this is also a game changer. Glad the AGI took this step!
