We are officially back on the ground. In a world divided by borders & conflict, our colleagues in Lebanon remind us of our shared humanity. Their magnificent work on the frontlines of this flyway - despite the surrounding turmoil - is an inspiration to us all. 🇱🇧 ✨

Today is the last fireworks-free Saturday that the people, pets and wildlife of Bradford, Batley, Bolton, Huddersfield, Oldham, Luton, Leeds, Peterborough and others will experience for the rest of the entire year until next year's one month of peace. This is not an exaggeration.

@Elle_Bee__ @greenbeltsal Sorry to hear that. It's appalling for health. A Bradford mental health charity on ITV news recently shared the terrible impact this is having on people. Most our MPs consider this a very serious issue, but our governments keep failing to act on overwhelming calls for change.

@FireworksBFD @greenbeltsal Noise pollution is sadly never taken seriously, yet it’s terrible for health. My nemesis is the skydivers that incessantly fly over in a noisy plane wherever and whenever they feel like. Law gives them a noise regs bypass as they’re aviation. I feel your pain.

What is being inflicted on these towns and cities is an environmental, social, and public health disaster.

@Francesforbesca @fireworkreform They haven't posted since 25th Jan. Following 370K+ petition signatures there was a 19th Jan debate in which MPs spoke of the horrific impact persistent fireworks are having in their constituencies, yet it still resulted in nothing. What hope is there for this country anymore?

You can't have "social cohesion" in towns and cities where significant sections of communities set off fireworks every night all year making entire postcodes sound like war zones. When is this reality going to hit home for our governments? Why is nobody listening to this?

We have a HUGE amount of green space, rural and semi-rural neighbourhoods and pleasant countryside in all directions. Bradford isn't some sort of grey wasteland defined by inner city problems. There should be MUCH more outrage about fireworks causing so much harm to nature here.

Countryfile is covering city of culture Bradford. There is no city less ‘countryside’ than Bradford. Again the BBC push their woke agenda. While @JeremyClarkson does more to educate the public and useless @UKLabour than anyone in the past 50 years. Time to #DefundtheBBC

Care home residents frightened and depressed. Hospital patients unable to sleep. Babies waking up screaming. PTSD sufferers in distress. Dogs being scared out of their skins. This is every night in Bradford because of fireworks. What is happening here is unconscionable.

ITV report yesterday on fireworks in Bradford. You must watch this. Multiple interviews, including a CEO of a charity providing therapy to vulnerable people in Bradford who says fireworks are making people's depression and anxiety "a lot worse" and children's lives worse.

It already sounds worse than a warzone and it's 17:30pm. Why are we made to live like this? How is the public allowed to buy explosives that sound like mortars and cause such disturbance and suffering every night? What kind of failed nation are we living in that allows this?!
Bradford Fireworks Menace@FireworksBFD

It's just constant bombardment out there. A country of absolute bastards. An evil, backwards, completely doomed island of the worst people imaginable. People and animals shouldn't be living in these conditions. I can't stand it any longer.

🗞️ NEWS: Mass panic at Bradford fireworks display as 20-30 yobs jump out of cars and fire tubes like 'rocket launchers' into crowds of families Adam, 36, who attended the event said: “There were a lot of high-powered cars parked-up, they were all jumping out of the cars with tubes, firing them.” "They were all over, everywhere.” “There was a mass panic, people were screaming and people were not knowing what was going on.” Security at the event tried to protect people and Adam said some of them “took a good few rockets in the face and chest”. Adam said the ordeal left him with a feeling of disgust and that he has been to the event at Peel Park for a few years but won’t be coming back after the chaos of this year. A spokesperson for Jamies Finnie and Son Ltd, which ran the event, said: “Incidents like these further prove that the sale of fireworks should be banned, and displays should only be carried out by licensed professionals at organised events." THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY FIREWORKS IN A PUBLIC PARK FULL OF WILDLIFE! BAN FIREWORKS, NOW!

100,000 signatures have now been surpassed. Parliament considers all petitions that get more than 100,000 signatures for a debate. If that debate results in no significant overhauls to firework laws then this country is broken beyond repair.

🗞️ NEWS: Bradford MP calls for 'urgent' reforms to fireworks laws as residents are left frightened in their own homes and animals traumatised by all year round menace Imran Hussain, Labour MP for Bradford East, has tabled a parliamentary motion with several of his colleagues demanding stronger regulations of fireworks. Mr Hussain said he was contacted by residents "all year round" about firework misuse and noise. "They are left frightened in their own homes." "Pet owners have pets that are traumatised, and families with children are woken late into the night by deafening backyard fireworks." "We need common-sense reforms such as reducing the maximum decibel level, restricting sales to licensed retailers, and exploring quieter or drone alternatives that protect both people and animals." "Residents in Bradford have been patient long enough." "It's time for the Government to listen and act." "The current laws simply aren't working." A small island with a nature-disconnected population setting off explosives every night to make you feel like you're in a war zone and a government intent on wiping out nature for developers is not a place anyone with any soul deserves to live in. This is what my hell would be.

The RSPB must go all-in on calling for the government to ban fireworks right now. Emily Williamson would be rolling in her grave at the mass suffering being inflicted on birds by fireworks. The entire reason she founded you @Natures_Voice was to PROTECT birds. SO GO PROTECT THEM!

Firework Season is a time of high activity for migratory birds in the UK. Here’s what studies show #fireworks do to them, it makes terrible reading: “The primary effects of #fireworks on birds stem from their intense noise and bright flashes, which can trigger panic responses. Migrating birds, which often travel at night to avoid predators and conserve energy, are particularly susceptible. Studies show that fireworks cause birds to abandon roosts en masse, leading to erratic flight patterns and increased altitude to escape the disturbance.” “It is shocking to see just how much further birds are flying on nights with fireworks compared to other nights,” says Andrea Kölzsch, a research scientist at the MPI-AB and first author on the study. “Some individuals flew hundreds of kilometres over a single night, covering distances that they normally would only fly during migration.” As Environment Secretary @EmmaforWycombe you should be doing something about fireworks and their effect on nature. @Natures_Voice @RSPBScience @ChrisGPackham @MeganMcCubbin #fireworklawchange You can read the full report here: mpg.de/19528005/1121-…
