NaS gets disproportionately compared to Rakim VS his other influences because of 5%isms, lyrical content, & their similar "storylines" in terms of their massive impacts when each came out.

If you've ever read it, you can tell almost the exact moment where it happens. All this build up abandoned! Smh

@noahsiskaamari @iamphella Absolutely. NaS for sure. About the only person who WASN'T influenced by NaS then was Guru (on purpose).
I'd never heard Em credit Outkast as an inspiration (besides putting Andre 3000 on his list after Redman, Jay-Z, Pac, & Biggie). But I'm not a huge Em fan so I wouldn't know.

Infinite is just the relatively recent shit that was good enough to remember (/ independently did OK, a lot of copies circulated & thus were uploaded).
There is some meh stuff from WAY back that sounds super dated.

@nf_d00m @iamphella Nah, I doubt it. Lupe got a HUGE push from Atlantic Records. People don't realize it after the fact but his buzz was a combination of organic fans and getting a TON of press and reach to generate word of mouth all over the industry and the Hip Hop community.
Lupe was HUGE in 06!

Royce was known from the GTA 3 soundtrack in 2001 (& collabs w/ early Em)
Pump It Up was 2003, 2 Fast 2 Furious era
