@AZAGMayes The federal government runs the post office though, and while the federal government can't tell the states how to run elections, the states can tell the federal government how to run the post office.

President Trump can sign all the executive orders he wants. It won't change the United States Constitution. States run their elections, not the President of the United States, not the Department of Homeland Security.

@FreeVoiceOG @rkeuler @CheriJacobus @FrankLuntz Once again this ability you say the states do not have to use the mail they want is also it a power the federal government has. There is no regulatory power magically granted to the post office. So maybe read up some more.

The executive order calls on the DHS to work with the Social Security Administration to make a list of eligible voters in each state. It also seeks to bar the U.S. Postal Service from sending absentee ballots to people not on each state’s approved voter list.

@FreeVoiceOG @rkeuler @CheriJacobus @FrankLuntz Well first it’s against the law for the post office to handle mail that way. There is no statutory language that allows for that level of control. Not ti mention the post office is not really a federal institution of the executive branch. The president’s control is limited.

@megbasham If a Supreme Court Justice is concerned more about optics than the law, he or she should be impeached. To even suggest it shows serious lack of trust in the institution of the Supreme Court.

Oregonians have successfully voted by mail for over thirty years, and we’ll be damned if we let Donald Trump change the way our state runs its elections. My message to the White House is this: if you come for Oregon’s vote-by-mail, you’ll have hell to pay.

Trump announces he is issuing an unconstitutional executive order to shut down mail-in voting nationwide and he will defund states if they do not comply with him

States can still run ballots through their own mail or parcel services, or choose to work with carriers such as UPS or FedEx. The USPS is a federal institution not bound by state directives or rules.

Canada and Europe may be in the same latitudes but the weather is not the same based on latitudes. The gulf stream gives Europe a different climate than Canada per square mile averages. But you probably already knew that, and just chose latitudes to try and 'outsmart' those you think you are smarter than.

The Trump EO on mail in ballots may be BRILLIANT - States run elections per the Constitution. Don't fight them on that ....... BUT - the mail system is Federal, you want to use that - follow our rules.

@RobertLutherFL @davec_NH That's not even close to covering post office ability to regulate what can actually be sent and delivered. It covers the impediment of the delivery of a lawful mail piece, not what can be deemed lawful to send.

If President Trump attends the Supreme Court's oral arguments tomorrow on his birthright citizenship executive order like he says he will, he would be the first sitting president on record to do so. Presidents have avoided attendance in part to honor the separation of powers.

You blocked me. No, this is allowable, if the states want to use a federal institution, then the federal institution (federal powers separate from state powers) can handle how they permit federal mail to be used. AGAIN... States can run their own mail, but States cannot force the federal government to follow State rules. States run their elections. The federal government runs the post office. Separation of Powers in action.

The president has power over the post office, which is NOT a state level institution. Absolutely a state runs elections, but a state doesn't have regulatory authority over federal mail system, and how the post office classifies ANY type of mail piece. This EO doesn't prohibit states from using mail. It restricts the post office in the sense of how it classifies ballot mail, and how the post office -a federal level institution - can assist states in their balloting procedures. States can create their own state level post offices if they dem necessary to facilitate mail on ballots however they see fit, and can even use private companies like FedEx, UPS, etc if they do not want to be restricted through federal mail classification processes.
