Prevent Pandemics: Protect where bats eat & roost, protect people at risk. nature.com/articles/s4146… In @NatureComms, primary prevention should be a priority to minimize future pandemic risk. Healthy environments & animals = healthy humans. Ecological Countermeasures can do this.

Here is her open access chapter on Transforming Practice. Wonderful that @BatConIntl and some other organisations have flipped to being evidence based. We seem close to a tipping point where is just become unacceptable not to reflect on the evidence. openbookpublishers.com/books/10.11647…

Winifred Frick was part of the team writing a chapter on how organisations can deliver effective conservation including creating a checklist. She thus realised the need for someone to embedding evidence in practice so hired Teague O’Mara #ICCB2023

.@BatConIntl says many ways people can help including creating and protecting bat habitat in the backyard. "Everyone working together is a message of hope," said @FrickWinifred. "Yes, we know we have a lot of work to do, but people are really coming together to do that work."

Why do zebras have such striking, conspicuous, black & white stripes? This >150-yr-old mystery, puzzled over by Darwin & many others before him, still isn’t solved. But one hypothesis is in the lead. Hint: it's not predator confusion, thermoregulation, or camouflage (1/9)

It's official. We're getting the band back together. A bit of funding for @jnyurbina to come back to the lab to continue working on RNA interference as a treatment for white-nose syndrome in collaboration with @foreignsands and @BatConIntl's @FrickWinifred and Tina Cheng.
