It allows them to still market games as "exclusive" by keeping them in their own ecosystem. It takes care of the problem where Steam users revolted over having to have a PSN ID. As PlayStation users learn about a PS app on PC (hopefully with a Play Anywhere like program) they'll also buy games from the PS PC store and Sony gets that 30% cut still. It feels like this was the inevitable endgame from the moment they launched on PC

I’ve always found it odd that PlayStation would consider pulling its games from PC. At the same time, launching their own PC launcher feels like a smart move. With their newer PC releases even previewing the PlayStation UI, it creates a more unified ecosystem. From a business standpoint, it makes a lot of sense by distributing games through their own launcher, they avoid revenue splits and keep full control over sales.

But the PlayStation stans told me that PlayStation would no longer port their 1st-party AAA single player games to PC but this looks like the complete opposite business strategy and PlayStation is going all in with PC

I've been saying this for months, it's in all the tea leaves and the lack of exclusivity marketing on the release date tweet was even more sus. As for Helix, BayBay if it's a Windows app it'll run on there. May need a workaround to get it to the Xbox home screen but I'm sure it'll be easy enough for most consumers to do.
I'm sure Sony wouldn't mind the cash though, the console war only exists in the minds of fanboys, not executives at publicly traded companies with business ties to each other

This is the first game I've been really excited for in advance. Feels like before the first Mass Effect launched and I was taking in every bit of marketing and reading every interview until the game dropped. I don't usually let myself get hyped for newer games, but I've got a hopeful feeling with Exodus

I think Schreier was told a half truth, probably because the guy who told him wasn't qualified to speak on PlayStation business. I think they may pull back on releasing games on STEAM and push their PlayStationPC app instead. And Wolverine will be the day 1 exclusive release. Look at the tweet announcing the Fall release window, it had PlayStation 5 exclusivity marketing all over it. Then the one announcing the actual release date did not have any exclusivity marketing. That's a big tell

PlayStation games are going to PC day 1. That right there is the only thing that makes sense if the new rumors about a PlayStation PC storefront are true.
The whole reason we were given for them pulling back was weak sales on Steam, and the cause of that was primarily because they were not releasing games day and date with PC in the first place.

I feel the only way the PlayStation Handheld will actually affect Switch 2 sales is if cross gen lasts for essentially the entirety of next gen
That way it's at least getting "new/current" games as opposed to being an LTTP PS5
That's assuming it doesn't play native PS6 games

I don't think Switch 2 will come anywhere close to selling as much as Switch 1 if this supposed PlayStation handheld is in fact a thing and can play PS5 level games as it will eat into Switch 2's potential sales. PlayStation is the number 1 gaming brand in places like Europe and Australasia and its been that way since the PS1 days, so in those territories they will naturally eat into potential sales of Switch 2. PS Vita struggled because of memory cards and having a completely different library of games(and a crappy one at that.) which wont be the case with the handheld as it will have a unified library with PS5 and possibly PS6. Sony has lost a lot of headway in Japan, where Nintendo has essentially become a monopoly by default as the Japanese prefer handhelds so a handheld would naturally do well there thus eating into Nintendo's core market. Then there is the beast that is GTA 6. If Switch 2 doesn't get GTA 6 and this PS handheld does then that's a game changer. The big thing is price though, pricing the handheld will be absolutely key. Interesting times ahead.
