I'm reading my parents' letters from WWII for the first time and just discovered that my uncle was part of the 101st Airborne, and at the Battle of Bastogne! These letters were found after my mom passed away 3 years ago at the age of 97. She married my dad who was in the Army Air Corps when she was just 19 in February 1945, and they only saw each other on the random weekends when they were in the same area and he could get leave until he was discharged in January 1946. But they stuck together had us six kids and raised us the best they could, never having much materially.

The liberal youngsters call us “boomers” as if to insult us. But us “boomers” went to school before the department of education was created. We learned how to read, write, history, do math, work with our hands, find solutions to problems, figure things out, respect for our elders. We were taught if you want something in life it is up to you to get it because the reality is life can be difficult at times. We look each other in the eyes when we talk to each other. That’s when school actually prepared you for life. We didn’t have school shootings and we had just as many guns. Boys were boys and girls were girls. So yeah, we’re “boomers”. Without us, there would be less freedom and fewer rights. Freedom and rights that are too often taken for granted
