@FiredUpCoug In southern Japan I noticed that everyone carried a small hand cloth. Many places do not have paper towels or anything to dry your hands after washing. You were expected to carry your own. Also try to learn their system for trash cans, "recycling" is not just one can.

I just read all 800+ comments in this thread regarding manners in Japan.
Many were common expectations, such as not littering, or talking on the phone while on a train.
However, many were new to me. Here's a summary:
DON'T
- Waste food: finishing shows respect
- Eat or drink while walking
- Take photos in buses, trains, shops, or shrines
- Buy items in bulk
- Pass food from chopsticks to chopsticks (this closely resembles a funeral ritual)
DO
- Learn a few basic Japanese phrases
- Slurp your noodles (it's polite!)
- Walk single file in tighter spaces
- Use a translation app
- Carry a small trash bag, public trash cans are rare
- Use both hands when giving or receiving items
Thank you all for sharing your comments, they were fascinating!

My Japanese friends. Someday I wish to visit your beautiful country. Before I do, I want to know something. What are behaviors from tourists that are considered rude in Japan?

@teameffujoe @jlippincott_ I call it the "jerk density theory". When there are too many jerks near you, you think someone else should solve all your problems and that you are entitled to that solution.

@jlippincott_ Imagine taking a picture of a pothole you could fill yourself in 20 minutes and complaining the government isn’t doing it for you.

@Oilfield_Rando The part about being "subject to the jurisdiction of" should invalidate all sanctuary states and cities from citizenship.

@tanuzou1027 Someone in Japan complained about the USA not using the metric system, so Elon declared a time out for Japan. 😀 This is your April Fool's joke. 😀

This is unconstitutional. Voting is a fundamental right for every American. Illinois will keep administering free and fair elections – and what Donald Trump puts on a piece of paper will not change that.

@learning_yohei In Japan, almost everyone seems to use an umbrella, people rarely use them here. 😀
