Has anyone else seen more than one acorn on a single peduncle (stalk)? These are all on the same tree. @thetreecouncil @TheKentAcorn

When a 200-year-old oak tree collapsed in Coventry in October 2023, local residents Patrick and Melanie decided to sponsor a tree nearby to honour its legacy 🌳
By sponsoring a new oak tree, Patrick and Melanie hope to revive this vibrant ecosystem and bring life back to their street.
There are so many reasons to sponsor a street tree - what's yours?

@BloodNelsons @TheKentAcorn No, that's a different plant. Wild garlic (ramsons) is native to the UK. Three-cornered leek is an import. Both edible.

@TheKentAcorn It's wild garlic and very tasty 😋

@treemissions Are you sure about that?
0.00018055555555555557 trees per mile X 2,445 miles = 0.441 trees.

It takes about 450 mature trees to offset the annual emissions of one person. Now, I know what you're thinking: "That's a lot of trees!" But don't worry, I'm sure we can find a way to make it fun.
Imagine, if you will, a world where every time you flew, you had to plant a certain number of trees to offset your carbon footprint. You could have your very own "flight forest"! Every time you take to the skies, you'd be helping to create a lush, green oasis. And let's not forget the added bonus of having a place to hide from the in-laws during the holidays.
Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty. How many trees would you need to plant to offset the emissions from your flight? Well, that depends on a few factors, such as the distance of your flight and the type of aircraft you're flying on. But let's just say you're flying from New York to Los Angeles. That's about 2,445 miles. Give or take a tree or two.
If we use the 450 trees per person per year as a rough estimate, and assuming you take one round-trip flight per year, you'd need to plant about 0.00018055555555555557 trees per mile. So, for your New York to Los Angeles flight, you'd need to plant approximately 441.1764705882353 trees.
Just remember, the more you fly, the more trees you'll need to plant. And who knows, maybe one day we'll have forests growing at the end of every runway.
So there you have it, a fun fact about how many trees it takes to offset the emissions from flying. Now go forth, my environmentally conscious friend, and plant those trees!

@iwgardendesign @treemissions Calculations are usually based on large trees. It takes years to get to the point where they make a significant contribution. Even if trees are planted (they aren't always) there is no guarantee they will not be cut down.

@treemissions Get real, carbon offsets don't work, they only exist to salve the consciences of the bourgeoisie with their prolific flying habits. Attenborough amongst the worst of offenders. isleofwightgardendesign.wordpress.com/2022/02/24/tre…

@GaelMyrica @treemissions A lot of trees planted are neglected and die.

@treemissions I was told that if everyone just planted 4 trees a year this would cover their foot print ..
