@dampierguy It needs to focus on recruitment across the whole, & stop fudging figures with the Gurkha expansion simply as an easy fix. Too long the recruitment has been focused on DEI recruiting rather than open recruit & accept that you would get females & minorities as part of the process

The contention by the military and politicians that we should be getting ready for a peer conflict is hard to take seriously when they are still obsessed with social engineering. Women are 11.9% of the British military. In 2023 women were about 4% of the Ukrainian military.
UK House of Commons Committees@HoCcommitteesUK

The Defence Committee heard from General Sir Roly Walker, Chief of the General Staff at @DefenceHQ on the percentage of women serving in the army being still too low, and a need to attract the 'brightest and the best' to get ready for 'what might be coming.'

Hobbes update. Because he’s been in & out of a cone for nearly 4 months now, due to his obsessive-compulsive desire to eat his own leg, through no fault of his own, he’s now on a crash diet. He’s back at school from next week 🤞🏻so, hopefully, he can ditch the junk from his trunk… Go Hobbes! You can do it!!

@thinkdefence My local MP will constantly justify the legislation by stating it was drafted & approved by Al Cairns. And interesting that he has stood up & argued that the law was good & needed. I suspect that he is maneuvering for himself politically & his military service was so last year...

How do Labour Party voters, supporters, members, MPs and ministers, especially those with a service background or connection, reconcile their party affiliation with the Northern Ireland veterans prosecutions. Am genuinely interested

@thinkdefence ACNs, PCNs, LCNs....ooooh suit you Sir, Suit You! I've spent a lot of time doing Air Support in one form or another and I have to say it is just a cracking environment and topic area to work in. I learned a lot about good practical Engineering and bashing on with the job.

Was thinking of writing a thread on California Bearing Ratio (CBR) and Load Classification Number (LCN) as they relate to aircraft runways, especially for soft surfaces of the kind those US MC-130 aircraft experienced, but would probably be just called a blue tick wanker

@DominicFarrell She's in the Kirk, seems to want to be there so let her be. I'm more concerned by the fact that certain Kirk communities and their hierarchies are not interested in looking after their parishioners or their religion in the way the church/ kirk should.

@thinkdefence I find it interesting that some of the people that left X because it was a 'hellhole' seemed to have slinked back & are going apoplectic about all sorts of Shite & once they break cover there is part of me that thinks I shouldn't deliberately poke them, but hey ho! shits&giggles!

The funny thing is, one was because I said people should be careful of live tweeting about the downed pilots, and the second was about US material support for us during the 1982 Falklands Conflict. I like to think I remained polite, despite the abuse from actual morons

@TheUCS473 There is a fudge of the figures as Gurkha have rebadged from Gurkha units across into British units. Overseas recruitment helped to increase the recruitment complacency. The use of capita brought in a org that didn't understand the "Job & Offer" while being slave to the process.

@TheUCS473 There are several issues, Withdrawal of recruiting offices & teams from the traditional recruiting areas created lost visibility and access to local schools. Also the move to 50% University access also cuts the recruitment. Once you leave a recruitment area you cant get back in.

When I joined in 85 we could maintain an Army of 150k in a population ~56 million. Army is half that & population is ~70 million. Huge demographic & social changes but still shocking that not enough people can be recruited. A problem throughout the western world generally.

Not only was it extremely lovely to wake up to so many pics of people’s dogs, it was also hugely heartening to note the universal outcry at the BBC’s sudden, & rather transparent, motivation to ‘suggest’ that we, as a country, might have taken our love for dogs “a bit too far…”
